Yeh around the $40 range is good, don't really want to take the piss with it, I don't want him to pay but he really insists :S

The Serendipity Beach Resort isn't available for the dates we need

Otres beach does look pretty dam nice on google, Wonder if it's like that in real life tho ^^

Edit: Think we will be arriving in Phnom Penh around 4.20pm, what's the best way to get to Sihanoukville? I'm pretty sure K2d gave me an email for a minivan service but I can't find it now :S

i believe there was some hooker talk a few pages back as well

khmer_sara@yahoo.com

ask for $8 minivan

i lived there 7 months didnt once go to otres beach (balla)

id rather stay by serendipity where the nightlife is and take motorbike to otres in the day if you want "nice" beach then stay on otres and take motorbike to nightlife at night

plus there are lots of good food options on serendipity road no clue about over by otres

there's three of you right? you can get a taxi for $50. i got a newish camry (by cambodian standards) for $40 six months ago so i'm sure you'll be able to get someone for $50 easily enough. there's an area where all the taxis wait near the central market. maybe you can get someone straight from the airport but it will be more than $50 i imagine.

no point wasting time with a minivan and the discomfort of it especially if there's three of you when you can get a car to take you easily enough for $50.

how uncomfortable are the minivans you have been in?
Living in Cambodia and turning Pro Quote

never been in one. i can't imagine it being more comfortable, convenient or quicker than a car.

are you suggesting the three of them wait for a minivan?

depends on their flight arrival/when the van leaves i suppose

a seat in a van is the same as in a car, they dont pack people in, dont see how either is more convenient, and the van will get there just as fast

no, a car will be quicker and if you want to stop for 5 minutes you can. also, once you set a price you leave. there's no waiting around. they could probably get to sihanoukville by 8:30pm-9pm in a car. not going to happen if you need to wait around for a minivan to leave.

car is better.

no reason car would be quicker then van

both are faster than bus

of course a car is quicker than a van. you have to wait for the van. a car you leave as soon as you agree to a price. plus you have flexibility as in i want to stop for 5 minutes. not to mention a car will be generally driven faster than a minivan.

the minivan will cost the 3 of them at least $24. there own car will cost no more than $50. after travelling halfway across the world i know what i'd choose.

get some sleep

it depends what time they land and what time the bus leaves

the van makes a 5 minute stop half way, and why will the car drive faster then the van? i was in the van and believe me the driver was going plenty fast i wouldnt want to be going any faster on those roads (id prefer to go a tad slower actually)

it doesn't depend on when they land. it takes less than 5 minutes to find someone who will take you in a car. a minivan is slower than a car. a car is more convenient, more comfortable and you're not having to share a van with cheap charlie sex pests and backpackers.

We are looking to land around 4.20pm so will be ready to leave around 5? I guess I'll send an email see what time that minivan will be available, but if it is too long of a wait will have to just get a car.

We are flying in business class in BA (free drinks ) so I'm sure we would have had plenty of sleep by then

How long is the journey from PP to snooky??

yeah a car is obv faster catching one from the airport is gonna set you back a lot more then if you caught one from the city Last time i paid 45USD one way from the city just go to any travel agent you see while in PP ( the more further from the riverside less they are going to charge you ). Bus/Minibus blows its slow and stop's for a long periods of time unless your going solo I always would prefer to hire a car. Pretty much during the day serendipity is where the locals hang out otres is where the foreigners hang out more people aged 20-35 but is pretty dull past 8PMish unless there is some parties going on. No offence yazzx but you could seriously google half these questions and get the same answers your lucky i'm super bored. If your around like 18-25 you would prob like utopia its some bar/club with a pool where a few people OD every few weeks its on Serendipity Beach road. Try out Grand Kampuchea BBQ its pretty good for food in cambodia

I played their last year. They have $20 tourneys 3 or 4 nights a week with cash game after and sometimes later on the off nights. 3 nights of hold'em tourneys and one is Omaha.

They play .10/.20 cash games and I guess the buy-in is around $20. Cash game is dealers choice and they play some pretty crazy games, 5 and 6 card omaha, crazy pineapple, weird games with wild cards etc. I was there one Saturday night when there was decent action (for a .10/.20 cent game), drunk guys buying in for $50-$100 and spewing off in relatively big pots but if you want to play for real money you're better off playing at Naga.

It's all very chill at Red Fox, they sell Js over the bar and it's a good place to have smoke, drink a beer, play some cards and meet some local ex-pats. Bar is downstairs, card room is upstairs, just rock up and ask at the bar if there is a game happening.

I might head back there this summer so let us know on here what the poker scene is like when you get back.

I will be going there straight away on sunday, a relaxed game with a few j's will be ideal for a start, I do plan on going to Naga but when I get a few sessions of live play experience again as its been a couple of years.
Thanks or the info you have been a real .
I will keep you updated on my exploits try and get this thread back to poker and How the hell can you play poker with ants surely they would make a break for it and the pot would be dispersing all over the table?

why are people in this thread confusing bus and van?

goldenbayon is a van that goes over 100 km/hour, i was in the front seat i watched the speeds, unless u r hiring dale earnhart jr to drive you i doubt the camry will go much faster then that

and again you dont want to be going faster then that on those roads

it makes one stop halfway through to take a piss and buy some water or food if you want

yazz it takes like 3.5 hours in van/car but you might hit some traffic because of your arrival time, i doubt you can catch the van i think last one leaves at 5 or 530 but you can try, hell if you ask sarah she might even be able to arrange for them to pick you up at airport cuz it drives right by it, dont count on that but might as well ask

If you want a cheap guesthouse then you should try Sakal Guesthouse or
Sunday Guesthouse in Sihanoukville. Sakal is very central.
