cambodia is not like thailand, it's way more third world here, don't expect tons of nice apartment buildings with pool or something like that..at least 2 years before there was only one gym with a squat or power rack in phnom penh, was called muscle fitness club or something like that..

if you're okay with a small gym (no rack, no leg press) i would recommend riverside area, but as far as i know there is no apartment building like in thailand, you need the number of an agent who could show you a few apartments

Regarding visas, go make a border run to Koh Kong and get to know the agents that work there. Most, if not all, of them work with or for the immigration office. They'll be able to handle extension of business visas up to one year. But as Pronto mentioned it'll cost you about $100 more than the normal price. This is essentially how we did it at Riverking before; we established a contact, used him for a couple of visas, made sure they were good then continued to use him. Worse comes to worse, come see me at Bao Mai as we have a guy already.

My last time in Cambo it sounded so much easier with the visa. Hoping to get out soon and wreck havoc in so many ways.

You can only get one EG per EB visa yeah w/o a work permit, you get an EB on entry (Business Visa) which lasts a month which is $45 now, then you can extend for 3 months (Around $90) which is an EG Visa (Just checked my passport). So you get four months for $135ish. After that, personally I do a border run to Koh Kong, ($10 bus) ($10 to an agent who helps you through it all with no headaches though this obviously isn't needed). You then repeat the process, I have done this three times but last time on the Thai side I got questioned by arrivals AND departures about my Thai Stickers due to the 2 visa exemptions per year via land border rule. It's quite annoying to know I wasted mine this year on purely going there for about 10 minutes, the agent advised me if I do it again to get a thai visa which ofc would be another $40. There seems to be no issue with having multiple EB & EG visas in your passport from Cambo immigration... at the moment.

I'm surprised to see PT talk about a border run because I was honestly under the impression everyone else here, most of them poker players never seem to talk of border runs and were just paying every 3 months for the EG visa then paying $100 more to have the work permit documentation sorted for them. I could be completely off on this though as I haven't done it yet. This way the cost of staying a tear really starts to add up and given I first came here because of the easiness of the situation you do start to question whats the point in being here... it's almost more hassle than Thailand now.

Has Sihanoukville really transitioned to this Chinese red district mafia as described in the article, or is it a heavily sensationalized narrative as it seems to be? (I have not been in Snooky in 6 years).

Dude, actually it took me 1 week to find a "good" grocery store.
Its located in AEON Mall 1 - And that one is more expensive then Grocery-Stores in Western Countries.
I saw Chinese Guys paying 150-200 USD(!) for a few things at the Cashier.

I dont get the point, why its that hard to have a good supermarket in the capital of Cambodia.

Some local told me, they have barely 2-3 big grocery stores in PP.
Rest is bull**** like 7Eleven, called KIWI-Market here.

Probs be in this thread a ton of times, and for that I apologise, I assumed visa reasons was a big factor, but looks like it isn’t. Also looks like it could potentially(?) be more expensive than other SEA countries.

Is the live poker factor the reason why you guys live there? Or is there other reasons I’m blind to, Considering heading over for my next visa run.

You can even go to the same bank and hope for a different person. But yeah better safe to try a different branch. Don't say anything to suggest that you work for yourself. Worst case scenario go talk to the managers at one of the underground card rooms. We were always eager to help players with that sort of thing when I worked at Riverking.

My three main reasons when I first came were girls, the visas and live poker. The girls I realize there are probably better places but the presence of legal live poker is a huge plus over a place like Thailand for example. The visa situation has become tougher but not impossible and certainly still cheaper than other places.

There are plenty of good western markets in Phnom Penh. I usually went to Lucky when I lived there, but there are many other choices such as the 24 hour one near Aeon on Sotheros Road. Every trip won't break the bank but it has to be accepted that certain western products that don't originate from here are going to be more expensive. Everyone should also get used to dealing in the local markets and sharpen up on negotiating skills.

There is some of that stuff going on but it doesn't affect the expats on a daily basis. There aren't shootouts on the streets and tourists aren't kidnapped on a regular basis. For the most part the biggest daily nuisance is avoiding all the construction trucks on all the Chinese projects, the potholes they create and losing our favourite westeen places to eat slowly but surely.

I wasn't suggesting them as a regular practice but rather as a means to acquaint oneself with an agent who can help continuously in the long run.

We recently had a $10K freeroll at Bao Mai. Tournaments are always difficult to run, both leading up to it and the day itself. When it was all said and done, the staff and I went out with some of the players and hit the town. We went to Victory Hill and that sucked as* as the girls wouldn't pay any attention to us and only sought out Chinese customers. Then we hit up the bars going down to Serendipity Beach and those were terrible simply because the girls were horrendous. We ended up at the New Square and finally hit the sweet spot. We got drunk for hours and about half of us ended up taking our girls home. Jesus that was a fun night. My girl had a body like a gymnast and was hilarious in that the only English she spoke was "OK". When she came out of the shower she saw me giving her body the once over and asked, "OK?" It was definitely OK! She was drunk off her as* so I'm sure that made it that much more fun. But perhaps the funniest part of the video was Renton who got drunk and finally let loose a bit. The bar keeps a big dildo around as a gag. So of course he had to pick it up and break out into air drums.

It's raining every ****ing day here. My only saving grace on days like this is spicy Korean food right before work. Lucky there is a place right around the corner from Bao Mai No matter what you've drank, smoked or whatever a spicy bowl of Korean ramen will make you sober as a judge inside of twenty minutes. I'm sort of pissed off right now because I was $200 up yesterday before I lost it all to break even during the last hour of the game. The game was a godamn bonanza and I always hate not winning in these kind of lineups. Headed in soon to do it all over again. The first lineup is usually sort of nitty, but I never minded playing the day game in Vegas either.

Hey guys, I don't have a phone with passapp right now so the only way I can get a rickshaw is approaching one... when I ask to go on the meter they have no idea what I'm talking about and start quoting rip off prices like the old style tuk tuks... does anyone know the Khmer word for meter (3000r per k/m I believe?) or simply a beter method than me just pointing at the drivers phone which doesn't seem to work either.

My Khmer staff tells me it's simply "taxi met." But it probably has to be said in the Khmer pronunciation that puts the emphasis on all the wrong syllables. Good luck Sam.

Thanks PT, best guess - 'met' 'mit' or 'meet'?
