Ah yeah, as mtt player definitely better to get landline.. Had digi in phnom Penh, with which i had a few problems, have metfone fiber now in sihanoukville which works perfectly fine for the last 6 month..

Agree with cellcard for phnom Penh, have smart, metfone and cellcard for mobile, but cellcard was always best for phnom Penh

Ya, can't argue with that, I was focusing more on the "investment" part of his sentence. I'm not listening to many people at the local casino about that, Asian or not, unless that 23y/o white dude with the hoodie and head phones starts talking about some magic internet money.
Then you might want to listen

Also be sure to get a regular SIM card and not a travelers card. On the latter you're restricted on what type of packages you can get. I pay $8 per month on Cellcard for 80gb of data and $8 on Smart for 40gb more. You can't get either package on a travelers SIM.

What package u have for opennet in ur home? Can tourists just pay extra and get the business package? They have 50mbps advertised for 120/mo...

If ur online grinder and just plan to grind like 10 hours a day would phnom penh be a bad place to live? I dont care about price of internet/accom just only internet speeds and stability...

I believe I have 12 Mbps for $30 per month. I never experienced any slow downs or disconnects and most people I've spoken to about Opennet seem to have similar experiences. I've never inquired about business services so I can't really say.

I know plenty here who grind online and especially in Phnom Penh they don't experience too many issues. I played exclusively online a couple of years ago and played on my mobile data only, tethered to my laptop. That is always an option as well as mobile data is extremely cheap here.

not too many play tight-aggressive. they are call happy in general. can't resist a spite call or crying call. never fold a draw.

i'm making assumptions i know, but that's what you're doing at a poker table. no time to give everyone the benefit of the doubt.

just compare any asian casino to vegas. they're mad gamblers in asia.
So a white poser gets more respect than a Asian young guy from MIT? Makes sense. So are white old guys 50's ish, tight and never bluff and only play premium hands?

If you think most youngish white guys with hoodies and headphones are decent or even good at poker you've clearly never played live poker or you are terrible yourself

You get an original month on a business visa, then you can extend once for three months... after that you can either do a border run or I believe there are people who are able to sort the paperwork out for a work permit for you, but it costs an extra $100 on top of the visa costs. If you will have a job here it'll be no problem of course.

it's not like you can go to the next agent pay $100 extra and you get your business visa, you need to find someone who can support you with a signed and stamped letter from a company which is allowed to hire foreigner stating that they have a job for you.and even when you have the business visa you still don't have a work permit which is way more hard to get and which you technically should have in combination with business visa..

or you just can stay on a tourist visa and go every two month on a visa run, there is also a student visa and a one time 6 month visa which you can get on first entry, lot's of different options, and every option has his pro and cons.

so the tourist one can only be extended up to 1 month just like in thailand. so whats the major advantage to cambodia now if having to visa run all the time? its the only reason im looking to go somewhere other then thailand

How do you get the 6 month on arrival visa? Cost and restrictions?

Not much really thesedays, you get your month visa for $45 then you extend for 3 months for around $88 IIRC, so its a border run every 4 months for the cost of bus tickets & the new visa. But I know a bunch of guys who are able to get extensions and haven't done any border run but I haven't done it myself so not sure what the process is. Just fake getting registered at working for a company I guess.

as far as i know you can still extend the tourist visa just for 1month (so 1month on arrival+1 month extension) then you have to make the border run

the other visa i was talking about is for people who come to the country to find work,it's up to 6month,restrictions are (as far as i know) it's single entry, you can only get it one time and it's not for people who are already longterm residents in cambodia..

it's called EG Visa, when you arrive you need to get a ordinary visa, and after 1month you can extend it to the 6month EG visa (so overall 7month),dunno about the cost, but probably not more then $40/month

most poker players i know are still on business visa's but without work permit which is perfectly fine as long as you don't get in contact with immigration officiers, if they find out you stay on business without work permit you have to pay something between $500-$900 for every year business without work permit, and i'm pretty sure you need to get the right documents or have to leave the country

About the visa situation in cambodia. You can just get a business visa and then extend it for 3 months repeatedly. Isn't that right? You need work permit for 6 and 12 month extention I think. Not sure. Can someone confirm?

as far as i know that was the case in the first 2 weeks of the "new visa law",there was a lot of confusion and they changed some things, situation now is that for some business visa extensions they want a proof of work permit, and for some (the 12month extension) they just want the company letter, but in any case a work permit is required for your business visa, even if they give out visa's without proof..

if anyone want really accurate info this fb group is always up to date with the visa situation "Cambodia Visa and Work Permit Group"

So, basically, it's now impossible to expat to cambodia from europe as an online poker player? What's the solution if there's any?

in the end this is cambodia,if you really want to stay here you will find a way,it's just not as easy as it was before.

like i said most poker players i know are still on business visa without work permit, chance that you get caught are really low for the moment, some are doing the visa run on tourist visa, and if you really want there is probably also a way to get a work permit without working,it's just not so easy, and poker players are lazy

you can get another eg visa after leaving the country and returning with a new business visa and it's about $30/month or a little less

better to do that than 1+1 month tourist visas
