I also got to know Kata, Karon and Patong areas pretty well. I personally liked Kata-Karon areas the most since it had enough drinking and eating options and enormous beach, like 2km long I think and nice, wide beach but not even close to crazy as Patong.
Patong beach is kind of meh, it's not that wide and there is alot of traffic just next to beach. For partying it's obviously #1, others have maybe bar areas with 10-30 different bars, Patong has probably few hundred if you take into account all the small ones
If I were you I would just stay somewhere for 1-2 weeks and check out all the places by myself, quite easy to drive through Phuket on scooter.
My best experience with Internet was called The Title Resort in Rawai, nothing special but it did the work, although they had some annoying system that I had to ask for new Internet password every day.

I like your style Codecci, we got a lot in common judging from your last two posts 
I used to think Phuket was best too but now I'm in BKK mainly because that's where the girl is that I was dating.
I think it's pretty nice in BKK tbh though, I do miss the nice roads for driving in phuket though, I used to love just driving up an down the coast all the way from rawai to patong and you can even go further than that.. it's nonstop beauty
But I'm going to save up money for a real bike and then I think BKK might be better than phuket because there's not really any roads to use all that power in Phuket.
And even when I stayed in Phuket, it's not like I went to the beach or some nearby island everyday, so I might as well live in BKK and then take the occasional trip to Phuket or another beach/island. Specially once I got a bike, that will make the trip even more fun.
