I lie to them, I dont assume what they say is anything, because I have managed to learn the art of blackening (no racist tag) my self out while still having my eyes wide open as soon as a thai girl speaks

On another note G.I Joe is a horrible movie and I want my 100baht back, modern cinema these days, pfft.

Any last minute tips as far as things to bring rather than try and find over there? Any moments after you got set up you thought **** I should have done this/brought that?

someone mentioned in this thead a while ago not to plan on buying any clothes over there if you're not small, that was pretty helpful. Also to bring a nice set of sheets as the bedding over there is either garbage or expensive as hell. **** like that would be appreciated.

Get a credit card for withdrawals they seem to be doing pretty good for me so far. when we play football or go to dinner with friends, ill put it on my CC and collect the cash, its kind a withdrawal in a sense and im not paying a high vig, usually 1%. If you dont have one, bring as much money over as you feel confident carrying, to save on withdrawal fees from the ATM.

Bring bedsheets and pillow cases as there expensive here, I have a pretty much unused set im selling if you want them, as my new place gives bedsheets (kind of hi so).

Clothes can be bought for cheap here, but if you just bring them from home then you dont got to waste extra money here, as you said your on a bit of a budget. Important to bring enough shoes/trainers if you are a large size as they are hard to find. Sports gear bring from home, they cost more here.

Other then that I think your fine.

oh perhaps get a haircut before you come over, some of the cuts I see when i meet people on this board are ghastly....

nice thanks for all that info, I get haircuts twice a year and am steady ghastly though

If I'm going to just bring over all of my cash, should I convert it to baht here or at the airport there? any specific banks **** you the least? I've heard something about a green bank being the ticket.

I've got a capitol one credit card and just looked into it and they charge nothing to use internationally, but I doubt I'll be able to use that for street food and hookers, so that is fairly useless.

Hello 2+2er's in Thailand!

I was wondering if any of you have experience learning Thai in a school to get the education visa? Do you recommend any schools?

I was also wondering if any of you have taken up teaching english part time, either as a way to meet people or gain a side income. Does this option exist? IF so is it worthwhile?

I'd love to hear back from you.

I'm pretty sure the most English teachers can make is around 30K a month working full time.
So working part time would not seem too profitable, but it all depends on how your money situation is I guess...

I am learning Thai on an Ed Visa.

It's by far the best option in terms of visas. As far as schools go, if you are just doing it for the visa, just choose a school that's close to where you plan on living. There might be some small differences between schools, but at the end of the day you are learning Thai because of the convenience factor, so choose the most convenient.

FWIW I just chose the cheapest school on the island, since they were all in pretty much the same area. There are only 4 people in my class, most days only 2 of us turn up.

pro language has been recommended several times

part time private tutoring pays a better hourly (400 - 500 baht/hr) than full time (200 - 250), still have to factor in travel costs / planning time / stress. it is a good way to meet people tho

just built a computer at Jedicool in pantip plaza today, they are going to mail it to me tomorrow apparently, hopefully they don't just keep my money and run, will report if it gets to me in good condition. The service was fine, they seemed happy to help, they let me buy parts from other shops and assembled it for me for free, and their prices are cheaper than invadeit.

if its alot of cash, go to SuperRich, located opposite Centralworld in the middle of bkk. they tend to have the best exchange rates in thailand for alot of different currencies. if its a relatively small amount the airport is fine.

have been to walen + pro language + language express. language express is the best by a mile, but a bit more expensive. pro language is ok depending on the teacher, would only go to walen if u dont care about studying and just want the visa

She is educated mate, an accountant in fact. She is also pretty chilled but this guy made her lose face to her family and friends bigtime hence the massive tilt.
