Currently just stopped into the Philippines (Cebu). Just curious on what draws you guys here? It's cheap? Woman love you? What is it? I mean I've only seen a tiny sample size and am just asking the question.

I will give them they seem to be pretty friendly. The security checks worry me somewhat

I found it worse than thailand in every way for long term living, worse internet, worse value for money western quality apartments, worse security, worse infrastructure, worse food, more expensive essentials like food, condo, air con, internet.

What would draw me back for short trips is the girls yeah, latino body type, better in bed, none of the tilting chronic shyness Thai girls have. And because Thailand is too much easy living. Nice beaches and cheaper bargirls if you're into those.

Other aspects are friendly people, live poker, English being spoken, easy visas, and it being similar to American culture. The 'mexico of asia'.

ha yeah agree PI girls in general are way less shy in bed. Too many regular thai girls have this issue and as you say is pretty tilting. Although PI girls tilt me hugely in other ways.

I was thinking about PI a few years back but after a visit also felt Thailand is quite a bit better in the general living requirements area. Can they not just send over a load of PI girls here. There seems to be tons and tons in every other Asian country I've been to apart from Thailand.

There's quite a few filipinos in Samui. Thais like to employ them as English teachers and there are quite a few filipinos working in higher end hotels because of their English skills too.

so you are saying Cebu sucks?

I always thought it was one of the more 'luxurious' places in the Philippines. I do note that I based this assumption on no research at all

In terms of relative importance, Cebu then Davao, although Davao is considerably larger in both land area and population.

Girls are hotter in Cebu as well, although Davao has a lock on the darker girls if you're into that.

Internet really isn't that bad anywhere in Cebu, you just need to stay in a reasonably good location, and not expect Korea-like speeds (which you can only get using the new PLDT Fibr services).

Cebu is probably the best place I've been to in the Philippines, so don't let one poster dissuade you from checking it out.

or he could just read all of the recent posters in this thread who were here that said there internet sucked in cebu, including the guys who lived there and chimed in saying that they needed to have two companies land lines cuz the internet is so bad there...... and its not about speed its about staying connected, if you go 30 minutes without a disconnect you ran great, i had a globe tattoo right next to a giant globe tower and it wouldnt stay connected, i have every companies pocket wifi or 3g stick and couldnt get a connection in my room half a mile from IT park

jspill lived right next to IT park couldnt work, ezyano blocked his stars account for his last few days because his internet was so bad he didnt wanna get drunk and waste his time/money playing in an unprofitable situation

hell they only complete like 95% of texts there

internet was one of the main reasons why, but of the 7 cities ive been to in asia cebu is last on my list by a wide margin

I've got a condo in Cebu, my Internet is just fine, no issues with Stars. My mobile internet is reasonable, although I don't expect LTE speed at any time even though it claims it's receiving.

Just because people have different experiences than you doesn't mean you are always right.

Take a valium.

Anyway the point is you are earning from poker and you need to treat it like a business. Make up your mind where you want to live and get a land line. I even have two from two different companies, because the internet is so ****ty here sometimes.

here is some random non troll who lives in cebu who posted this a month ago, i take random non trolls opinion over yours who only comes here to tell everyone how wrong they are

just as i take jspills, ezyanos, and my own experiences

Internet was terribad when I was there last month. Pretty much could use Skype for messaging and check email. Anything else was plagued with constant timeouts. Best Internet I found was at Ayala mall actually.

Why are you even bothering to quote my posts to try and disprove my claim that Cebu is a nice place to visit?

Just because you had a bad experience does not mean that it's not a place to check out.

You have serious mental conditions that makes you try and fight everybody that doesn't conform to your warped cheapo form of living.

Internet in the Philippines is not as stable or as cheap as Internet in the developed world. Deal with it. It doesn't mean it's completely unplayable. You just need to stop living in 15 dollar hotels and stop expecting that PLDT/Globe has fiber connected to your ass.

But you're right .. if the only thing that matters to you is silky smooth Internet, get your ass out of the Philippines.

I actually post a lot more information regarding the Philippines that you do when people ask.

Your posts border on self masturbation, but I guess you need something to make yourself feel better about your life.

Somehow I doubt that taking the word of you or your band of little third world misfits would be constructive. The pics of the girls you say are hot look like little gremlins or live in shifty hovels, and the pictures of food posted by jspill look absolutely disgusting.

I guess you can't expect much when its claimed that an average to good resto has main courses for less than $2, that chicken with lots of little bones is normal, and pictures of 25 peso streetside meals are included.

Word to the wise, not that I think you're listening, but you're actually eating the refuse that they can't sell, especially the chicken with lots of little bones, did you ever stop to think what parts of the chicken those are? Check it out.

this is a poker forum, being picky about internet is important to most users. k2d has praised the internet in AC, subic, and certain hotels in other places. locals i talked to said yeah you aren't going to get reliable internet most places in Cebu.

Why do you always presume to speak for "everyone else"?

In a forum format, you are speaking for yourself, unless you somehow got elected as the spokesperson for the thousands++ of people using this forum.

And I'm not arguing with you.

I merely said that Cebu is a great place to visit, and that the Internet issue is not something that should stop you from taking a look.

You're the one trying to argue that internet sucks, which since you're relying on prepaid wifi and 3g sticks, could be, and likely is the case.

It's not the only options. Try staying in a half decent hotel with room/lounge connectivity, or for long stay, get wired dsl. I don't see my neighbors, friends, or other long term residents having issues using skype or facetime. APT/APPT goers staying at the Shangrila were doing alright, although the Waterfront hotels sucks overall and not just for internet.

If anyone was being negative about Cebu, it's you.

yup did you not get the memo???

k2d has indeed been elected forum spokesgimp and all his opinions are actually the opinions of the travel forum posters. Hence he uses words like 'everyone', 'we', 'us' a lot.

everyone who has chimed in on cebu internet except for saltywetfish says cebu internet sucks, that includes multiple hotels, land lines, and every pocket wifi, and as jspill says we talked to people who live there that said the internet sucks, one of his DIA chicks who is in IT and works in IT park said her best option for internet was sun pocket wifi....... thats pathetic

since the landlines arent reliable (as a poster who lives in cebu said in this thread a month ago) having pocket wifis be reliable is quite important for poker players..... and they arent

billy you are good at talking about things you know nothing about so why dont you join him on the cebus internet is fine comment, you trolls usually do stick together

I was in Cebu 2 weeks ago and I had no problems with the internet I was just on vacation though and didn't grind. The 3G connection was way better in Cebu than in AC at least for me.

So, big debate on Cebu internetz going on, I guess I will chime in. So this is from someone who lived here for 2 years+ now.

First I lived in a house for a few months a bit outside the city (North Town homes in Cabancalan area, maybe 20minutes from Ayala), PLDT DSL 6mbit or so, was terrible from time to time and not reliable those times. I remember getting disconnected at least once with ~20 Turbo SNGs, which was somewhat tilting.

After that about 10 months in a kind of semi-budget (but nice) apartment in Banawa (about 10 minutes from Ayala), PLDT DSL 1mbit. Was FLAWLESS during those 10 months, don't think I had a single disconnect during playing.

Last 11 months or so I've been living in Mactan (20-45min from Ayala), PLDT FIBR 8mbit. Again, has been pretty much flawless (would equal this to Swedish reliability for sure), and a bit quicker than DSL having Fiber as well of course.

Have heard from friends that there's been some Cebu-wide problems with PLDT (and other providers) during the last few days though, which seems to be related to high PING to abroad servers, but seems to have been fixed now.

So, to sum it up, usually better reliability the closer to city center that you are (unless you pick a subdivision with Fiber connections). That is MY experiences here in Cebu anyways. And if you want to add redundancy just get a 2nd line from another provider for like 1k pesos/month and you should be fine.

I think going to a hotel and judging the whole city's internet on that experience would be a bit off, same with USB sticks as you can find a spot that it works 100% in and another spot close by that will be worse than ****. If you're living in PI long term there's really no great option other than signing up for a land line (imo).
