"Mindanao and the surrounding islands rarely make the headlines except when some Western tourists are kidnapped. But Mindanao has been the scene of an ongoing conflict that has now lasted for more than 35 years, as the Muslim Bangsa Moro people have fought for self-determination. To date the conflict has claimed 120,000 lives, many of them civilians."

Yup rumours are terrible things. Can still go down that way just be careful which parts.

Also been on surigao, siargao, CDO(taxis are quite bad there) and bukidnon. All seemed pretty safe(though yea Davao seemed safest). I have got many warnings not to go Cotabato(muslims etc.)
Thanks for that, I've found it pretty hard to get any specific info on places that are ok other than Davao, your the first one who has mentioned some other places.

Was gonna go there in March, but doing elsewhere instead now, will get there at some point though......

K2 I know your liking your hookers at the moment. However one thing that the PI offers is an abundance of girls looking for there western prince or just some nice foreigner to bang. Just walk around any city (not angeles) and its like shooting fish in a barrel.

Spent 3 months in Cagayan de Oro last year with a few poker buddies. Overall OK city, but much prefer Cebu (where most uf us are living now). The city is quite small and there are just a couple of nightclubs around, some kareoke bars etc. And of course a couple of malls. But other than that not that much to do around there.

Felt safe there all the time though, think the "dangerous" parts are down the south west area of Mindanao if I'm not incorrect.. So it's quite far from the more touristy areas I think (like CDO and Davao). Haven't visited Davao yet though but heard it's good.

Also, I remember a lot of people stare at you when you walk around in the CDO malls if you're a foreigner since there aren't that much foreigners around lol. So kinda funny, but you get used to it after a while.

Well there are plenty of girls at night calling at americanos, usually like massage sir? Also quite many KTV(yes usually strip clubs here). But yea obv have to becarefull with you stuff and money(and check them before you let girl go) and obv not so good to go bang stranger if you too drunk. So plenty of cheap hookers here!

Theres a Filipino Poker tour event in Angeles next week. Its a P5000 re-entry with a million GTD so i'm using it as a handy excuse to spend a week up there to play some "poker".

Is it inside "the international" or I think it changed name to "cuba cuba" or something.

I played som 5000php rebuy there last year, great value but I managed to rebuy 4 times and bust as one of the first.

Its at a place called "the angeles poker tour" on Macarthur highway. Think its quite a new room so imagine the regular games are packed full of nitty locals.

Yeah I heard about that place, looked pretty nice imo and I saw some regs from the other poker rooms on their FB page.

A poker room in Angeles needs to be in within walking distance from Fields imo, needs to pull in the fishy foreigners.

Meh, when I was there the ones operating on fields were still full of local nits and shady characters.

Yeah the one on fields is really shady, I have only heard bad things about that place.

The place I like is on A.Santos inside the old "The International"

It had the local nits, but also had some fishy expats/tourists, I remember one Canadian I think he was who lost like 150k in an hour.

Yeah it's open again, The International has changed ownership and is now some kind of Cuban bar owned by Lewis Grand I believe, lots of freelancers ive heard.

The pokerroom seems open again and seems to be doing well.

Yeah I really like that bar now its been done out, met the American manger a while back (not sure if he still there) very nice guy tho, staff are good too and serve wicked right next to where i stay.

As a side I have tried the mexican restaurant Tequila Reef which is on the same small street, I believe it is owned by the same guy who owns the pattaya Tequila Reef but for some reason the food quality and portion sizes is terrible compared to the Pattaya one.

That one in AC is known for being poor.

The only semi decnt meal I had in AC was at Swiss cottage and even that wasn't particulalry good.

In fact thinking about it the best meal I had was probably McDonald's which says it all really.

Must admit I am sucker for the margarita station. Love eating there on a massive hangover while watching some 80 year old play pool with some 21 year old skank hooker

One of the lads I was there with insisted on taking us to this 'fantastic' steak house he frequented. All I can say is the guy must not have any taste buds as it was not great, didnt have the heart to tell him though....

killah - how much to take a girl out of one of the KTV/strip clubs? easy enough to get a number from them and get a 500 peso short time session from them after their shift?

Just cook for yourself mate, bag of rice, fresh fruit and veg and then whatever meat/fish you want with it. Will be cheap too.
