I like this, I've been taking just two deadlift attempts my past few meets since I've had really clear cut goals. But this way you're basically using your opening attempt as your last warm up.

Coming into this push/pull meet after my first attempt at an "off-season" I'm a bit more unsure about how I'm going to go, especially since I've got two more full meets coming up in the next couple of months, I'll likely do something similar to this. Certainly don't want to start off all my prep by missing lifts.

Also I meant to post re: mike t's suggested attempts.

I think yugo was pretty spot on, if you plan to be competing a lot, its defs better to continually leave a bit in the tank.

Recovery is easier, physiologically its better. And each time you get back into the gym post-meet, you feel better and will be more confident towards constant improvement on the platform.

Ya, Ive seen some people recommend taking your last warm up as your opener for deadlifts. Im just a little nervous cause i was so weak last week that there is a chance I miss 550. Two weeks ago I wouldve said there was 0 chance i miss 550 but now i am not sure.

I agree with you about Mikes suggested attempts as well. I had planned to do a meet in mid January then one in March, but Mike T suggested to try and fix my squat first. Thats why i kind of want to get 600 this meet cause im not sure when i will compete again. If i for sure was going to compete in January, i would for sure do something like 530/565/590

Interested to see how you do at this meet - I've got one coming up on 12/8 myself.

Thanks. Im interested to see how I do because the training the week of this meet is way different then it was for the last meet Mike T programmed for me. Do you remember how he programmed the week before the meet for you?

This is what it looks like for me this week

6-7 Days Out: Deadlift 4x3 @8.5, Overload Type Bench: 4x3 @9

5-6 Days Out: Go through warm-ups

4-5 Days Out: Work up to openers

3-4 Days Out: Squat 3x3 @8.5, Bench 3x5 @9

2-3 Days Out: Go through warm-ups for all 3 lifts

1 Day Out: Rest

Contest Day: Compete.

The last meet i did he had me work up to openers 4-5 days out and work up to the last warm up 2-3 days before the meet.

Good luck in your meet.

Hey Weasel,

If you don't mind could you say the name of the chiro? Or maybe PM it to me when I get PM's authorized. I have a couple nagging things I wouldn't mind getting addressed with someone that isn't clueless.

Also, good luck at meet

Yeah I've prepped a few meets w him and it has always been the same. Work up to openers and then work up to last warm ups. I wonder what the rationale here is?

This is a just a guess but maybe the people he coached did better at their mock meets when he kept the workouts pretty much the same as always before the mock meet instead of deloading pretty much the whole week before the meet. I think he has said before that he performs better at meets when he keeps the volume a little higher before meets

So I'm not going to get coaching with Mike T anymore. Does anyone have any ideas on what programming I should do after my meet. I was thinking either Sheiko, Sheiko using Mike Ts methods with fatigue stops and RPEs or trying to program like Mike T. did. Any one have any thoughts. I would look into other programs as well. I dont really like 5/3/1 or the cube method because I feel I do better with higher frequency on the contest lifts.

I have no opinion on what you might want to do with programming because what you like is different than what I like, which is squat once a week, DL once a week, and bench twice a week.

sheiko / dave bates programming imo. there's a reduced volume bates plan out there.

or, do your own programming based on what you've learned with mike t.

I dont know if i know enough about Mike Ts programming to program it myself. I just found this from B. Sheikos new website. Looks pretty good and seems pretty close to what Mike T had me do

Lol I have no idea what people who are actually strong do for programming when they are all powerlifting. Your dislikes eliminate a lot of programs. I honestly have no idea. My knowledge of programs basically stops with SS, GSLP, SL, TM, 5/3/1, Juggernaut, and Cube, which you've basically all eliminated.

Oh and westside. But **** that (no offense, Cha )

Maybe start reading about block periodization and design your own around that?
Weasel45 Log Quote

Mike Ts stuff is kind of like block periodization. It has volume and intensity blocks that are supposed to be 3 or so weeks long each. I cant tell by looking at my programming for the last 30 or so weeks which are the volume and intensity blocks because I was just doing 5s,4s,3s on the contest lifts than repeat. And 90% of the time the volume would be the same on the contest lifts. The assistance excersizes rep ranges just seemed to be picked at random but Im probably missing something. I bought his RTS manual but he has changed his template and some of the wording he uses so it doesnt really help me program for myself. Thats why I kind of want to try Sheiko because it is easy to follow. I just feel if I try to make my own program, I will mess it up and not make progress.

I dont do any westside stuff.

Benching is the closest. That's a combo platter of Tate/Spoto/Mendelson with my own twist.

My DL program is mostly based on Benedict Magnussen's.

My squat program is a bastardized program by Tim Henrichs that I got out of a TNation article.

Cha reads westside stuff iirc and possibly has dabbled. Are any of those guys descendents from the westside school?

But yeah, he doesn't really westside afaik. Most programs have "ME" days they are just called "heavy" or "amrap" or w/e though, right?

Tate is a Louie Simmons disciple. ME & DE is lingo that westside uses, and I have read a lot of stuff by Louie & Tate that is good, but for the most part, I'm not a huge fan of their programming. I've never really done any westside programs. Not that they wouldnt be good, but they're overly complicated & they just dont suit me imo.
