I'm going to give it a listen tomorrow but I swear to god if part of the injury prevention protocol is "3s-5s on lbbs and dl" I'm going to be pissed.

My sneaking suspicion is going to be "do everything at a lower rpe, utilize some kind of periodization scheme, and improve your technique but probably lower average RPE is most important unless you are ExpectedV. Here are a bunch of irrelevant people and why they're ideas about preventing injuries are wrong" but they're going to take an hour to say it laden with meaningless jargon.

I think rather than "roids let you train harder", guys on roids can probably train at far lower RPEs while still making progress.

Some people find discussion of the psychosocial aspects of pain science to be interesting/informative. Maybe if you Tweet at them, they'll put out companion Buzzfeed listicles with their podcasts so you don't have to waste your time.

I was referring to their discussion of the psychology of trainers who are wrong about preventing injuries. But yes, they did that other crap too.

Call the goddamned podcast "Psychosocial Aspects of Pain Science" then or discuss it after, you know, injury prevention in the podcast titled "How to Reduce the Risk of Injury". The useful portion was crammed and rushed while they could have easily cut out half an hour of repetitive self-congratulation and used that time instead. A repeat problem of theirs.

A follow-up question since you're obviously not going to name any element of injury prevention they discuss in the first 35 minutes; Do you actually literally listen to these guys without occasionally muttering, "What a couple of asshats" under your breath? I just can't imagine.

I try not to listen to bad podcasts, no. If someone told me to start at the 35 minute mark I'd have been thankful--then listen to the first part if you want. The problem is if they executed the podcast that way they'd have gone into much more detail on the actual high-content and then scrambled to fit in the rest of the stuff that didn't matter. Instead of the opposite.

I mean, they basically *do* wind up turning the injury risk reduction discussion into a buzzfeed style list. Maybe it's fine on background but I actually wanted to listen.

I gave it a listen. Liked it a lot actually! My predictions were only half right; they seem to suggest technique is solely a way of optimizing performance and has little, if any, impact on injury risk.


But basically "if you're injured frequently, you're training too hard". As obvious as it sounds, I've certainly bought into the "just do this special secret mobility drill/rehab exercise/technique adjustment" fads personally. Helps to hear it broken down more formally.
