i love how that goes from "i should give him a pointer" to "he's probably a dick" to "CURLS IN THE SQUAT RACK *****"

Big dude at the gym today with two kids, probably 10-12 years old, incredibly skinny. Anyway, big guy taught them every single kind of fly variation known to man. warms the heart to see knowledge passed to the younger generation

Eradicate them from the gene pool imo

Saw the strongest guy I've ever seen today. He squatted 495 to an iffy depth.

Unfortunately he did this with his back in a perfect C shape. I actually expected his spine to rupture right there in the power rack.

Compound exercises are advocated in this forum, aren't they?

that's a mashup not a compound exercise.

Name a physical activity irl where you WOULDN'T have to curl your arms while lunging. Ever heard of catching a falling baby?

In smileyland, things are "functional" only if they apply in a post-apocalyptic scenario. Catching falling babies is just another yuppie globo-gym trend.

Ya tsearcher, I expected this to happen already, and am sure it will at some point. Shouldn't really be complaining. But every day there is just more and more and we are getting to where we might have to start refusing them, or get creative with our scheduling. I think the latter might be the trick. Adding in a few other days for primarily the boxercise and aerobic classes.

I've learned this much. Word of womans mouth is a powerful marketing tool. We haven't advertised in ages, and it barely worked when we did. This is all just one female telling another, and so on.

but i rearrange the plates on every rack or bench i use, so maybe i can't even begin to understand your level of gym laziness.
The squat rack (L shaped kind) has a couple pins on the open end at waist height. I put the bar there and put one 20 kg plate on each end, then lower it to the floor and start warmup sets. It's about as easy as it could be short of hiring someone to do it for me. HMMMMM.

I'm lazy - I'm not an *******.

I always put plates and other equipment back where they live, always strip the bar, will even move stuff from where an idiot has left it to where it lives.

i have no idea what these guys were doing, but it's two guys who are decent size who are always working hard in the gym doing squats, olifts, etc

anyways, yesterday, they were doing a hang clean this way: standing upright with bar close to their knees, they rock back and forth with their hips/ass to get enough momentum to then get the bar up to their shoulders. so it's like, rock back and forth a few times, then explode up.

that can't be good, right?

They may be trying to get on the white-board of the some pet psychology forum.

i'm referring to you loading another "20" after the first. it should not be very hard with the bar on the floor. yes, it will be harder than loading a "15" at that point. HMMMMM.

I do this with hang snatches sometimes to try to figure out how the hell to generate upward force on the bar with my hips and glutes. No clue if its legit though.

What's with all of these guys rapid firing partial reps of compound lifts? I always see people bench pressing, and they never come close to lockout or their chest with the bar. I usually just write it off to them being bench/curl monkeys, but today I saw these skinny 30-40 year old men doing this with the squat. They were using weights that were way too heavy for them too.

isnt this how german weightlifters used to do cleans decades ago?

Saw two separate cases of guys benching >2 plates with a thumbless grip today. I kind of felt like I should say something, especially remembering that football player who dropped the bar on his neck last week, but no one pays attention to unsolicited gym advice. I think I'd feel bad if one of them crushed himself, though.

Other day a trainer (to be fair, this guy luuuurves the deadlift. I see him having all his clients deadlift. Chicks and dudes.) was training this big guy a deadlift. Big guy was doing pretty good. Pulling 440# for reps, form looked fine.

Big guy finishes his set and PT, who obv fancies himself as a bit of a deadlifter doesn't want to be out done. Bends down and "deadlifts" the loaded bar, with terrible form up onto the pins so he could unload it.

I didn't know whether to be impressed or to lol. Cool, he just lifted 440 off the floor. lol because he is going to srsly hurt himself trying to impress his client who is way bigger than him anyway.

Next client was a chick who he has deadlifting 176#... she didn't look like she could've been more than 125#... kinda hot.

They will, I was doing parallel squats with 250 in the power rack on wed and this athletic guy comes to the rack near me on one of those big balls, he sits there for my entire warm up lightly bouncing. He finally start 1/4 to 1/3 squatting the bar and bounces more, holding the ball and balancing on one foot. Then does some reps with 135 doing 1/4 to 1/3 squats breathing loudly. He does this in the total time it takes me to do my full set of warm ups and 3X5 with 3-4 min rests. Then puts 225 on making tons of noise doing the 1/4 squats.

Ive seen one other person doing decent depth for squats in my gym and his back was over extended so badly, hes pretty big doing 315 looking straight up and his back curved.

The only people I see going near parallel are people in the smith machine on slight angles.

Since I started reading this forum again I've poured through most of this thread.

The last time I was in LA Fitness, before kyle set up the home gym- there was a version of the bouncy Asian treadmill girl. This one just did random arm flairs, sang on occasion, and most weirdly rubbed her hands all over her thighs and ass. It would have been a massive turn on had she not been so clearly 17, and bat**** crazy. She also would get off the treadmill, pop on an elliptical for like 3 minutes- then back to the treadmill. Utterly bizarre.
