It's literally 0 outside, I don't want to go for a walk.

I like it.

I think it burns a lot of kcals. The main thing I am trying to do right now is get rid of bodyfat.

My dream was always to get fat enough to reduce ROM. I think I'd have to get to like 340+ though. Even then, there's some 340+ strongmen who are 6'6" with good sized fat stomachs, but not big enough to have to reduce ROM. Maybe I'd have to hit 360. Just lol. If there were no health consequences I'd do it in 2 seconds.

DT has been incepted by futureloco, all is lost

The extra deep sleep from the dadding related exhaustion has given him an in, and now our gentle giant is gone

ETA: I feel like JF-like updates on the number of calories burned, how good your life is, and the degree (or lack thereof) of WIM exhibited are now compulsory

Ok, here's the truth. I am trying out for the Bulls. 4 more injuries that are exactly Noah, Dunleavy, Taj and Snell and I'm on the team. It's a difficult time to be a Bulls fan, by the way. Monte, I am sure your buddy is really lamenting the current state of affairs.

Cha, before I started, I did some research. I don't think I will get magical results like that article stated. Here's something Dan John wrote elsewhere:

That might be my most edited piece ever. We all noticed good changes, but I would have to go back to the original to figure out what I said and meant.

I looked better...flat out looked better.
I think we all know to take T-nation articles with a grain of salt. I simply think it's a very challenging and doable program, and I'm going to try it if my hands let me.

The guy I lift with did 10,000 in a little over 4 weeks. He eats everything in site and is very new to lifting. It didnt really change the way he looks imo. I think it did help his conditioning. It didnt help his posterior chain as much as I had hoped because his form isnt great.

I assume proper kettletarding technique is someone like squatting, in that you should really be flexing your upper back/lats/glutes/etc for the entirety of the lift? The Dan Johns swing is essentially all hip hinge, right?

Upper back - not so much. The lats should become involved at the top of the swing and they should pull the KB into the zipper, then relax. The focus of the lift should be the hip hinge and snapping the weight up.

Thanks cha.

Monte, I do try to keep my upper back tight and shoulders back, but I wouldn't call it flexing as much as trying to hold a neutral position and not letting the joints relax and shoulders cave in. Just thinking about holding arms in external rotation works for me. I hope my form is good.

I think a swing is very intuitive, with the exception of what Cha mentioned, that there is no rest period of the movement. When I used to do "American" swings at Crossfit, there was definitely a rest period overhead. The Pavel/Dan John way is more difficult and a more intense effort imo. There are some good vids online iirc, but I don't see and can't find the specific longer Dan John instruction video that was online at one point. Anyway, it's worth watching something like that as a primer. Getting RKC coaching in form is probably even better.

Nothing much to report. Busy weekend. Busy week. Doesn't really affect anything other than I probably won't do KBs until tomorrow.

I am hungrier lately and eating a bit more, very likely due to kettlebelling. The onslaught of holiday parties continues, which is probably the biggest current challenge.

Wasting away!

ETA: I think I have season affective lifting disorder or something, because just like last year at this time, I have no desire to lift anything heavy right now (which is at least somewhat due to illness, but still). May pick this up as soon as I get well.

Same here Monte. Although I believe it is the bronchitis I have. I don't even feel like playing video games or watching TV. Yet I'm not sick enough to not lift anymore so back to the lifting board as no one says.

If you're doing it right you'll really feel it in your glutes & hams. Only slight flex of the knees (vs. a squat) and your hips & legs should snap in place when locking out at the top of the swing.

I 2nd DT's recommendation on finding a qualified instructor. You can probably find a local KB gym that would work with you for not a ton of $$, punch card or a handful of sessions. I went to one by me and for $150 learned a ton in the handful of times I went.

droopy,

To head off DT, I live in the hellish wasteland of Indianapolis, and ain't nobody got time for that unless I can find someone to teach me within 6 blocks of my house, which a quick internet search seems to indicate is not possible. I did a fair bit of kettletarding around five years ago (I even bought an adjustable bell for myself and the wifeacore), so I'm semi-acquainted with it.

It's great you have everything else within 6 blocks of you. I'm jealous. Although I guess not too jealous about the hellish wasteland that is Indy.

Gym, work, and my house are actually all within 2 blocks of each other, I was just saying 6 blocks is the maximum distance I would travel for such advanced instruction.

Living in Indy confirmed terrible

When I beat you in fantasy football, some of the proceeds of that victory may go towards an I LOVE I**********S t-shirt for you to wear in shame. I guess given your prodigious size, it would technically be more like a muumuu, but still, the point remains the same.

Fredd,

That's true, I'd probably have to have two of them sewn together, but I'm willing to go the extra mile (so to speak) to get it done.
