Obviously you could jerk a lot more if you got under the bar a bit more, which I think would be easy to accomplish with a wider split. Have you ever tried splitting a bit wider? Jerk balances could help finding the right split for you imo.

Not much to say about snatches other than it looks pretty close to your face. Be safe. Sorry about the ankle.

Looking pretty svelte, dt.

Thanks. Ankle is no big deal. It will hurt forever. No attached tendons and little bone shards floating around in there according to my high school orthopedic dr dude. Oops.

Good point, the split is pretty narrow. I took a look at an old 135 to compare. Not that this is in any way ideal (e.g. I rotate my rear/left foot out, I am not very deep here either), but it's clearly a bit deeper and longer of a split.

Picture looks deeper on the split, but it looks like you have a tendency to end up flat footed on your rear foot on the split. I'm not expert, but my understanding is your back foot needs to stay up on the toe. If you look at your 102, 115 from today's video, they look like you land on the toe but end up with a flat back foot. Aside from not looking the prettiest, I'm assuming that's suboptimal when you're attempting a heavy jerk. I'm sure it doesn't help that your stuck lifting on rubber mats without access to a real platform.

DT,

I like to watch your videos to see the weird crossfit stuff going on in the background. Needless to say these videos delivered. Also, didn't know you had a tat on your shoulder. You need to show that bad boy off more.

Suns out, guns out.

Bolded is my M.O. since forever. I do ok in drills, but typically end up with the same problem on anything heavy. I can probably drill it out though if I really try. We'll see.

That would take like, a lot of effort though. Kinda like me trying to not be toesy on the receive of my heavy snatches and cleans.

Lol at that video title. Jerks look deeper and you're up on your toe, so that's good.

I don't oly lift, but it seems like your back leg is straighter (further back) than what is recommended. I think fixing that would cause you to be on your toe and a little lower, which should allow you to do some higher weight. Take that with a big grain of salt, I just judge the lifts not perform them.

Might be. I can drill all this **** to forever from now, but in all honesty I probably need a decent coach to look at this in person.

Here's a decent article on the split jerk by the old friend of erstwhile 2p2er COBROSTATUS:
http://tsypkin.blogspot.com/2012/02/...plit-jerk.html

It has some good ideas, including more submaximal reps at a point where one can keep good form. I need more of that.

I think you look pretty good in the videos. But, +1 to coaching. Training in a place where they coach weightlifting has me convinced that a coach for Olympic lifts is required.

ty btm.

bpa, not an option for me right now. I mean, look, it's an option, but I'd have to change my life around to a degree that I don't want to that would probably cost me big money earning opportunities at work and/or involve hiring full-time nannies, not seeing my kids, and I'd have to spend 2+ hours a day in my car to get to the closest coaching. I don't want to do any of those things so I decided my current situation/form/etc. is good enough, even if it's not good. Please open a full time wl facility by my house though and I will be there.

I hear that being cold the first few workouts going shirtless is normal. Probably feel beat up from the internal struggle that you are starting to embrace the Crossfit lifestyle.

bzzt.

It has been humid as **** in the gym though. I sweat like a crazy for the whole time whenever I'm there now. I would probably have taken my shirt off if I'd been in my garage today.

dt: does your programming call for power snatch/cleans? The guy that runs my barbell club basically hates all power and always has us full squat both moves.

Books,
I think that's a good idea for you.

I think I'm gonna follow this for a bit.

Cliffs:
Day 1- Work up to volume wave load work based on MTR. I will probably stick to a conservative MTR for the first weeks. Back squat volume.
Day 2 - Power movements, Front Squats, RDLs
Day 3 - work to max, back squat intensity

I will probably do something different than the squat programming listed in that program. For the next two weeks I'll finish the modified-Russian programming I'm doing. After that, we'll see but likely some sort of TM-inspired program.

Here are the MTRs I'm gonna use for the first cycle. (Using 5-week Matrix pattern of A-B-B-C-A)

kg/lbs
MTR Snatch 90 / 200
MTR Clean & Jerk 115 / 255
MTR Front Squat 140 / 310
MTR Power Snatch 80 / 175
MTR P Cl & P Jerk 102 / 225

my left/ rear ankle on the jerk felt bad from the jerk catch on 245 so I stopped at 275/125. Jerk was **** on that rep anyway, though foot position was better.
