What can you say? Hendo is my kind of America.

EDIT:

Cruz is doing a great job hiding his disdain for Hendo's lack of complexity, and I think he's actually angry with Tim.

LOL WTF EVENT

that card....

was insane

Odds of Dan Henderson's life ending due to blunt force trauma have to be super high now, nothing is ever going to convince him it's time to quit after that

They really need to just hold all fights in the smaller cage. So much more action.
06-07-2015 , 11:21 PM
How big is the normal cage ?
06-08-2015 , 12:13 AM
I've never brought this up, but if we're talking about changing the cage, how about using some kind of mesh or something instead of a cage with huge openings? One of the many things that makes humans so great is that our hands can grab things very easily.

"Hands out of the cage" has to be difficult on its own, even when not actively trying to cling to the cage. Something like mesh or plexi or whatever would allow fighters to put their hands against the cage(like they do their feet) without actually "holding it"

There's so many times where the ref is telling a guy to get his hands off the cage where it's unavoidable.

That Ortega victory was nasty. I find it strange that more guys aren't effective at offense from the bottom.

The only problem I had with the card: It seemed like every fight was stopped late. I counted 3 to 4 blows after the fight was determined multiple times. At least 3 guys were out cold for extended time after the match. (except the main. At first I thought BJM got in there too quick, but not on replay)

30 ft diameter, the one used on Saturday is 25 ft.

But do the math on the total square footage and you have one cage that’s 44 percent larger and 20 percent wider, says statistician Reed Kuhn, who has analyzed the effect of cage size for his blog, Fightnomics.com, and found that fights in the smaller cage are notably more likely to end in a knockout or submission, in part because fighters throw around 20 percent more strikes than in the larger cage.

“It’s not anything magical, just that there’s more engagement in a smaller cage,” says Kuhn, who also devoted a chapter his “Fightnomics” book to the topic of cage size. “It’s silly to think there wouldn’t be an effect. Imagine shrinking a baseball field by 44 percent. You’re going to have way more home runs. Imagine doing the same thing to a hockey rink. It’s going to change how the game is played.”

cage should have clear plexy on the outside or inside of it.

if it gets splattered the sheets of plexy could be slid up/out and cleaned between fights

actually, plexy should be on the inside and you can unleash all ring girls as squeegee broads when necessary.

they want to keep the cage because it's just such a part of the brand now to people but it's created enough issues already.

I like Rogan's idea of just having a large flat surface with no wall/ropes. Just a line of demarcation which forces a reset when crossed, like a BJJ/wrestling match. UFC will never get rid of "The Octagon" and "Cagefighting" brands, but Bellator and WSOF could benefit from distinguishing themselves. The obvious plus is people can see the action, but maybe it forces more interesting fights when somebody can't stall against the cage.

I'd hate that. When guys are in trouble of being taken down or something they can just scramble outside of the line. Or what if a guy gets knocked down outside of the lines?.

Plexi glass would probably be best, but it's never gonna happen. A ton of fans probably think MMA is called cage fighting lol. Refs just need to start taking points way faster.
06-08-2015 , 05:15 PM
I think the biggest problem with the plexi glass would be all of smearing of sweat and blood on it thus making it more difficult to see.

It'd probably be much hotter too.

lol what? Henderson is hilarious and says witty **** all the time. Anyway, unreal card.

To be fair, Rothwell did say "there's not a man in this planet who can stop me", and I believe that to be true.
06-08-2015 , 09:57 PM
You guys seriously think guys should be slamming each other into Plexiglas? A very thin fence wiring seems better, but toes and **** can probably get caught in it and ripped off.
06-09-2015 , 01:34 PM
How about a laser fence!!!
06-09-2015 , 01:37 PM
If you grab the fence the ref restarts the fight in the middle of the cage with you on your back. That would stop it pretty quick
06-09-2015 , 02:04 PM
I would prefer a moat around the Octagon filled with lava or snakes or something.

Really should be something like that. With current rules it's such a clear advantage to grab the cage all the time to prevent takedowns.

I do believe I saw this in bellator maybe? Ref gave him a warning or two for cage grabbing and then simply put him down on his back, but it was next to the cage not in the middle.

But this should be mandatory. Also +1 to always smaller cage, always.
