I don't see the necessity of a warning. It's a deliberate foul. Low blows, eye pokes, headbutts etc. get warnings because they're unintentional. If the ref deems a low blow deliberate he can take a point without warning. Mills Lane deducted a point from Tyson for his first ear bite. Why? Because it's impossible to accidentally bite someone's ear. It's also impossible to accidentally grab the cage. It's a deliberate move attempting to gain an illegal advantage. Punish the first transgression.

Think back to pride. Restarts are incredibly lame.

Just instantly take points for fence grabbing and eye poking. 100% avoidable fouls that can be huge game changers.

You should not be striking with your hand open period, and I don't think I've ever seen a legit eye poke during grappling in MMA.

What do you guys think of the idea of modifying the scoring criteria to include fouls? Right now the problem is that a warning means nothing, but taking a point is so huge no one wants to do it.

If fouls could be rolled in to the round score they would be given their proper weight. A minor foul could decide an even round and more egregious fouls would swing a winning round into a losing one.

Everybody should check out Chael's podcast, "You're Welcome". I finished a few of them, and he comes across as a natural host. I think he could be a top podcaster if he starts getting some higher profile guests. He had a funny story about Jon Jones when interviewing Cormier and Rumble.

He was at a hotel with his mom the morning after fighting Jon. He found her in the lobby having a pleasant conversation with Jon for the past 40 minutes. Jon is wearing nothing but a pair of track pants, talking about having been out all night partying with his brothers. They say their goodbyes, Jon walks back to his room, yells back to Chael and his 70 year old mom to get their attention, and they turn to see Jon's bare ass as he moons them goodbye at 7am. Mama Sonnen thought it was hilarious.

He also tells a funny Weidman story at 22 minutes in.

But this should be mandatory. Also +1 to always smaller cage, always.
Marc Goddard did it earlier this year in a UFC event. Can't recall the fight, though.

Simplest way to do it would be to make fouls .5 points.

Ken Shamrock (at 51 years old), ready to bare knuckle Kimbo this weekend.

Spoiler:

Obvious solution is to bring back Mills Lane to ref MMA.

How lucky are we to be in this era of supplements? I'm thankful for all our roid-rage forefathers who paved the way.

tbh its probably worth all the side effects to look like that at 51

I'm for sure eating horsemeat when I'm 51. I'll sacrifice some years off the end of my life.

yea this, i wouldnt ****in touch it until 50+ tho

i mean once you are that old, you got nothin to lose lol might as well have the body of a 35 year old.

Would probably rather live to be a ripped 70 year old than age naturally to 100.

I think if you use trt at appropriately levels the side effects aren't that bad and you can keep the t levels of a mid 20 year old for a super long time. Doing it to the levels of guys like Shamrock & TRTor are dangerous because they're probably at 5-10x what a prime of his life 20 year old is.

But then again Rogan has turned into a bumbling ****** since he's admitted to being on TRT these last several years. But I think he's abusing the hell out of it.

I was only half kidding. Something as simple as TRT has very manageable and limited side-effects. I'm almost looking forward to rocking that **** when I hit 50+. I can't even begin to think how much safer "anti-aging" treatments like that will by in another 20 years.
06-10-2015 , 07:48 PM
Considering all the sides there are to simply "being old" it's obviously a know brainer.

The biggest side effect is cost.

I used Androgel for six months, which is a popular TRT drug. Over that time I developed horrendous headaches and even a year after stopping I feel worse than I did before taking it. That's not a common side effect but it's not unheard of either. Androgel is a new drug that is being prescribed on a massive scale, I'm guessing more adverse effects will come out over time. Shots seem to be much safer, though they are a pain to administer and don't keep the levels even.

The upsides of TRT are legit but there is an insane amount of money being made promoting it and little incentive to look at the con side. I'm not saying it's a bad deal for everyone but take the hype with a grain of salt.

It's rare when mainstream media finally gets MMA right. Pretty great piece on Gil. I hope he wears his mask during his entrance this weekend.

Just finished a Crabfeast podcast episode with Daryl Wright and wanted to give ya'll a heads up to this guy. Ex-con who found out he's a natural comic. He's not very big, but he's based in LA so you West Coasters should check him out.

Jessica Aguilar has signed with the UFC. Her first fight is going to be against Gadelha in what I assume is a title eliminator. Kinda surprised she doesn't get an immediate title shot.

eh, that was supposed to go in the Stand Up Comedian thread. Whoops.
