I loved the 1990 and they did not have the 92s at my local B&M. if the 92 is even better I will be impressed. I think it was a maduro though not the robusto.

The decade was a robusto and it was not as awesome IMO.

Maduro is a wrapper, and robusto is a size.

When you guys buy a new Humidor do you like to wipe it down, or do you use the shot glass method?

Also are humidity beads a must? Or does the thing you fill with distilled water do the same thing?

Wow. I always thought that Robusto was the same as Robust since I used to smoke a bunch of Macanudos and they came as Robust and Maduro.

Is there a descriptive term for a medium strength cigar/wrapper like Maduro?

Wow, we both learned something here.

But as far as a term to describe a medium strength cigar, most people I know just say "medium strength cigar." I don't see anything wrong with this.

For people who like strong cigars, I haven't topped tatuaje's La Riqueza.

I've also been on a bit of a cameroon kick lately, and have found that my favorite is Ashton's heritage line. It used to be the A Fuente hemingway short story.

[nit]

its medium/full bodied

[/nit]

wrapper color doesnt always indicate flavor profile, tends to be a decent start and is easier to recognize colorado v conn. etc vs knowing what filler/binder they used.
05-19-2010 , 07:44 AM
The wrapper color does not indicate strength. But flavor profile? A cameroon always tastes like a cameroon, even when there are palpable differences when comparing them.

Props to the cigar afficinado's in this thread.

I just got a new humidor and my PSA is, get an element that is too big for your humidor. I got a 250 cigar element for a 150 cigar humidor and it is now locked on 71% humidity. This is the first time I have had a proper consistent humidity in my box. Before I had to refill weekly.

Ya, the Decade (and every other RP I've had) really doesn't compare to the Vintage line. IMO, the 90 didn't hold a candle to the 92, either, though.

Went to the Cigar store today, no vintage 92s (only like two RP lines in stock, wtf) so I got a $3 "J.Fuego" Delirium?

I'm going to try it in a bit. It's a "minuto", I believe (v small).

re: cutters

I've had many but the Xicar multitool is the nuts. Guillotine cutters, including high quality 2-blade designs, just don't give you enough control especially when the shoulder of the cigar is shallow. Punches let tar leak out of strong cigars. The V-cut cutters leave a weird cut that doesn't feel right plus the cut tends to collapse by the final third of the cigar which IMO is the most delicious part.

This Xikar is very accurate and sharp and lets you cut exactly as much or as little as you want. However, wouldn't recommend to a new smoker who isn't sure how he likes his sticks cut.

Played poker with Emmitt Smith once at my favorite cigar store while we both smoked cigars.

Cigar store owner/friend tells me torps are more difficult to roll so the more senior and skilled rollers get these while the less skilled rollers do normal shapes. Hence, you get a pretty reliable draw from torps.

This doesn't apply to cheap machine rolled sticks however.

Going to smoke a Patel Bros. torpedo tonight. Trip report to follow.

Just got ym first ever order with my humidor and cigars. I wish I didn't order so many CAO's but there were not many samples in stock at the time, any way heres some pics.

Nice score Newff!

Especially jealous of all the RP 1990's!
06-05-2010 , 09:47 AM
Forgot to mention that in the 2nd pic the last 2 cigars (seperated) are not CAO..it is an Arturo Fuente Hemingway and a Romeo y Julieta Anniversario.

Mike I smoked a RP 1990 tonight..as much as I wanted to wait until my humidor was seasoned and the cigars were in there for some time I decided that I'd try one since I have 5 of them. I enjoyed it..not as peppery as a lot I've tried which is good because I'm not a fan of the strong pepper/cedar taste...the burn was perfect and the draw was good also, a tiny bit on the firm side but got better. I'll try another once they are settled in the humidor for a while and see if theres much of a difference.

Good job Newff. Looks nice.

What is that orange CAO thing? Is that a travel humidor or just a weird display case?

The case is not a humidor or anything, it's just a fancy cigar display case, really well made actually. I'll be taking the cigars out though once my humidor is all set.

You are going to love the 1990's. I have to get some more of those.

I never got to the Patel Bros cigar the other night but last night smoked a Davidoff Aniversario #3. Delicious cigar. Most flavorful medium flavor cigar I have smoked in a long time. Even the packaging was cool with a metal tube and cedar liner. Got a little harsh towards the end but I am smoking so few cigars these days it might just be me.

is "Patel Bros" the same as rocky patel?
06-07-2010 , 09:04 PM
As far as I know, Patel Bros is a single cigar line made by Rocky Patel. The Vintages the above posters are talking about are Rocky Patels. I just didn't want to nitpick.

Yeah. As the next poster mentioned it is a specific cigar they offer. So far I have tried the Decade and the 1990. Both were very different and both were good but the 1990 was better IMO.

Is it wrong I prefer the Edge's over the 1990 & 1992?
