Black Friday and Cyber Monday should come up with some pretty good deals if you're looking to buy components soon. I would hold off and see what you can get on sale.

Yeah that's exactly my plan. Might be able to upgrade a piece or two depending on what kinda deals I can find

Who's going to buy an old HDD? You can get a brand new 1 TB drive for like 50 bucks.

well it won't be old if it's from a new PC

Guess he could turn it into an external drive pretty cheaply

Me? I haven't bought anything yet so wouldn't have to sell anything. I considered ssd but the price difference didn't justify the space loss with what I have to spend. This pc is for a soon to be 13 year old. I don't need it to be super fast loading. Need storage over that right now. Unless there is some super sick sale that puts a 750gbish ssd near $50.. I'm on a fairly tight budget

Side note, those enclosures are awesome. I use one with an old hdd as my expanded storage for an Xbox one.

what in god's name is a 13 year old going to do with 1TB of storage?

I have a laptop with 250gb that isn't even half full

He will download every game in my steam account. Easily will fill it. He's 13. He doesn't understand only downloading what he plays

He currently has my Xbox at 2.7/3.5 TBs. Every game we own is downloaded on it

When I was a kid my mom bought a new computer that had a 10Mb hard drive. This was pretty much the reaction to that magnitude of storage back then. "How the heck are you going to fill that that big of a hard drive!?"

1TB isn't that much for a gaming PC any more. The new Doom is 70 GB, for example, and I'm sure there are bigger games.

i'm guessing someone buying an i3 w/ a gtx 1050 isn't playing bleeding-edge games tho

That will run Doom no problem

If Ive researched it right, it should run most new games at 1080p,60fps. But he won't be playing a lot of AAA titles. More like rocket League, minecraft, etc. If he's anything like me at that age, it will be full of music and movies n **** in year

You may play rocket league on low settings in 1080p/60 fps.

Erm what. You can play rocket League on low with a potato. 1050ti is comparable to a 960. That's enough to run it on high at 60fps.

I guess. I just really undervalue the i3.

The combo of the i3 and the 1050ti have really good reviews together. While searching other budget builds I kept coming across those two together and everything I've read says they work well together

Cool then. I've not done a ton of research. I've only looked at higher end builds.

From what I have read when scoping out components for my last build, single core performance on an i3 isn't going to be enough of a step down from an i5 or an i7 to become a bottleneck for the majority of games.

Looks like I can fit 16gb of ram and a 120gb ssd in the budget so that should be a nice addition. Not necessary but will be useful on the future

I'm starting to get jelly myself. Thing will outperform my Alienware i7. Gonna have to build my own next summer
