There is a razer blade visible at 2:12.

I am getting that as soon as it becomes available.

anyone have experience with cyber power pc?

i don't like looking at pre-built computers and not knowing what the internal parts are, but they let you pick literally every part. I can see what my mobo will be like before getting it. And many of the upgrades are reasonably priced. And I don't need to pay for windows!

Can get an i7 + gtx1060 for $1100. RAM is low, because their ram prices are a bit high, but I can fix that on my own.

I recently retired one that soldiered away for 4? 5? years. Something like that. I bought it when the 6 core Haswell came out.

Headphones question:

So I got the HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset for my computer last year. It's been working fine until the baby yanked it out. Now it's giving me a USB malfunction. From my research the USB dogle went bad. I ordered a new USB dogle from Kingston Technology, but the headphones themselves are amazing so I got curious and wanted to try and find a generic USB dogle out there.

The jack from the headphones isn't split though, from what I understand it's called a 4 point jack that has the microphone built in. I've looked for a USB to a single jack with the mic built in but there doesn't seem to be any out there. They're all split with the two female connectors, one for the headphones and the other for the mic (Example).

Any ideas?

(I know that the USB dogle has it's own audio card to give it the virtual surround sound but since I don't use it too much I figured I could go without and not miss much)

I cancelled and ordered this instead.

This is significantly heavier at nearly 5 pounds... but 1070 is future proofing in a big way and what I saw in YouTube videos make it acceptable.

I have the same headset and use it by plugging the jack directly into the headset out of the pc. I don't use the mic though.

I did things in the wrong order.

I build my gaming PC, paid $215 for a GTX 960 about 4 weeks before the 10xx series launched, and THEN started buying issues of Maximum PC.

At least my 6700k should still be good in 2 years. Maybe then I'll buy some massive gaming monitor and an GTX 1170.

I'm wondering if I should upgrade my PC right now I have a I5 4460 and a 750ti GPU.

I'm looking at upgrading to a I7 6th Gen and a 970 -1060 depending on prices. How easy is it to upgrade the CPU? I've never had any experience with this, is it just simply take the old one out and put the new one in. Is there anything else I should consider when doing this... As in other parts that might hold these back from performing?

If you upgrade the CPU you will need to upgrade the motherboard too (and possibly the RAM if it isn't compatible or too slow). You will also need to check if the power supply has enough oompf. Depending on where you are and on what budget, i would also stray away from a 970 now, unless you find a used for peanuts. Also read up on the GPU size and look if your case has enough space. I had some trouble many years ago when my MSI 6870 was too big for my case.

As for putting it together, it's pretty much like building with color-coded LEGO bricks.

If it seems daunting to you anyway or you think you may poop your pants while putting the CPU in the socket without breaking it (at least that's how i felt for 5 different CPUs ), you could very well get a full order-built pc from a shop near you for 50-100$ more. OR ask them if they can put it together for you.

No, you would need a new motherboard as well.

i5 4460 is socket LGA1150. 6th gen intels are socket 1151, so you would also need a motherboard with a 1151 socket.

Quite honestly I don't think your 4th gen is going to be holding you back too tremendously. You could throw a 1060 at your rig and be good to go for modern games for a while longer.

Yeah I think I like your thinking. I mainly play CS which is mostly CPU, But I guess I can upgrade my GPU first and see how it goes.

Yeah, for CS I don't think a 2 year old i5 is going to be holding you back.

I've got a alienware 17 r2 that I'm looking to upgrade a couple pieces on and im looking for some suggestions. it got an i7-4710HQ @ 2.5 and a 970m

first I want to add a SSD, possibly 2. The spec list says

"5x SATA III 6Gb/s Ports

Following configurations can be used:

1x 2.5" SATA I/II/III Solid State or Mechanical Hard Drives
4x M2 NGFF TLC SSD"

I'm looking at this - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820147398 - want to verify this is both compatible and a good choice

second, the memory. I currently have 8GB. looks like i can upgrade to 16GB for less than $100. Is this worth doing with my system?

From what I remember reading when a purchasing a computer a few months back, there's virtually no gain to 16 GB of RAM unless you're doing specialized stuff, say lots of heavy duty photoshop work. I don't know enough about the latest in SSDs to comment on M2 vs SATA, I just have a couple of cheap SATA SSDs that are fast enough for me to use as boot drives

m2 is a confusing as hell topic that i wouldn't want to mess with. There's all sorts of different types, connections, bandwidths, etc.

Just get one big, fat SSD, as unless you're paying out the nose for M2, you're not getting a huge benefit
