I have downloaded Minecraft for both Mac and the PC. I have not paid for anything. On the Mac, I'm playing the full version, except I can't play online. But on the PC, it only lets me play the demo version, which has a time limit for play and no Creative mode. On my Mac, there don't appear to be any limitations except no multiplayer.

So what gives? Is there no demo version for the Mac, so it just lets me play the full version? If I were to pay so I can play unlimited on the PC, what would I get on the Mac?

BTW, I'm not complaining that I appear to have gotten the Mac version for free. I'm just wondering why they are different and if I can somehow get the PC version to run for free.

Tired a challenge that's on Ethoslab youtube channel: make a 5 course meal. That is, craft a cooked porkchop, cooked fish, bread, mushroom stew, and cake in 30 minutes.

First time I tried it, I was an idiot and had it set to peaceful mode and couldn't make a fishing pole. Second time, I was still an idiot and didn't realize I needed iron until 28 minutes into the challenge. Third time was the charm, or so I thought. Finally found a cow, look down at my watch and it was 31 minutes. Not that it mattered anyway--I had accidentally thrown away my wheat to make room for the iron (I had made the bread and forgotten that I still needed it.)

Oh well, one more try today.

I tried this one because it seemed so much easier than the other challenge, kill a ghast in 30 minutes. But just finding an egg and a cow took the longest time for me on the last try.

No luck on the fourth attempt. Killed two spiders the first night, thought I was set, so I went to bed. Woke up, turned out that I didn't even collect any string from them. So I couldn't make a fishing pole.

In addition, I spawned in a snowy biome and couldn't find any mushrooms until 28 minutes into the game. And I still hadn't found a red mushroom by the time the timer expired.

30 minutes only gives you one night to get the bones and string you need to succeed, so I have to remember not to end night before I get everything.

I tried the companions challenge so many times, get a dog, a cat, a snow golem, and a iron golem in 30 minutes, its a really fun challenge.

Finally succeeded with the food challenge. It really all depends on the map. I've tried maps where I can't find mushrooms or iron at all. The one where I succeeded, there's a red mushroom right where I spawned. Then, just wandering around trying to find brown mushrooms, I find a cave with an exposed iron vein. Turns out that there were 11 pieces of iron. Once you have the iron and the red mushroom, everything else is relatively easy--the most time consuming part was standing next to a chicken for 3 minutes waiting for him to lay an egg.

Donk, that challenge you describe seems impossible. 36 iron ingots and a pumpkin in 30 minutes just seems incredibly hard

It would be pretty easy if not for the pumpkin, spend any amount of time in a cave and you're bound to get enough iron. But finding a pumpkin is hard, and you need to be very lucky. The annoying thing about it is, even when you do get pumpkins, other things can go wrong ie not finding enough spiders for string, or not finding a jungle etc.

it is actually pretty possible, I just did it with half a day to spare, which is pretty awesome imo.

IMO playing single player is more fun than multi.. originally I played creative just building various visions I had, I soon played survival and my mind is blown, building mob farms, pig farms, traveling to the nether to get blaze rods and nether wart, subsequently using the netherwart to make potions, enchanting my armor or swords with the xp I got, survival is amazing. I would build rooms in creative and have no clue how to use them, in survival I have multiple rooms for very reasonable purposes, makes having a sick base that much sicker.

I don't get your argument. Multi has survival mode just like single player.

The ONLY difference between multi and single player is the number of players.

It used to be that single player was a lot less buggy and would run a lot better than multi, now they've made singleplayer just as buggy as multiplayer.

F nether wart. I've found two nether fortresses and neither one has any nether wart. Most of the good potions require nether wart, so I'm SOL until I find another nether fortress.

OTOH, I've just discovered enchanting. A bow with infinity is incredible. I'll hopefully be able to find a third nether fortress now that I don't have to worry about running out of arrows.

Are you sure? I don't think I've ever seen a nether fortress without nether wart.

nether fortresses can be deceptive in size, but they should have netherwart afaik

It's funny because if you do a google search of where to find nether wart, you'll always see exchanges between guys who swear there's nether wart in every nether fortress and guys who swear they can't find nether wart in a nether fortress.

I've seen the youtube videos of where nether wart is located and they are by a central staircase. Neither of the two nether fortresses I found have such a staircase. And I swear that I've searched every intersection of both of them.

However, it's a good thing I got lost going from the second nether fortress back to the first nether fortress. Because I found a third nether fortress. And this one has nether wart! Now that you can mine nether wart in the overworld, I'm set.

EDIT:

Lol, I brought 9 pieces of obsidian with me, just in case I found nether wart, so I could build a portal there. Of course, you need 10 pieces of obsidian to make a portal (for some reason, I thought you needed 8 pieces, so I brought one extra). Whoops! I'll probably get lost again going back to my other portal.

BTW, what servers are you guys playing on? If I find a good one, I'll probably spring for the full version. I've already bought the full Xbox version, but what the hell, the game is super fun.

What makes Minecraft so addicting to me is that you never run out of things to do. So I went back to the nether and built the portal next to the nether wart farm that I found, just to find out where I would end up. I end up next to a desert fortress, which is next to an NPC village, which is next to a huge ravine that includes a abandoned mine shaft. I was just planning to look around for a little while and ended up killing two hours just exploring those areas a little bit and gathering food for the walk back home. Now I need to remember to come back here again, once I return to my main base. I'd set up another base here now, but all my stuff is back home.

The funny thing is, when I bought the game, I thought it was stupid. I'd see my daughter watching minecraft videos on youtube. We didn't have the game, so I asked her about it and she had played for a while at a friend's house.

So I see a demo version on the Xbox and play it with her. Again, I think it's really stupid because there's no real goal to the game. But I buy it for her anyway because she loves it.

She wanted me to try out the PC version, so I downloaded it and again, I was wondering what the big deal was about the game. Then I looked at the clock and realized that I had just played the game for 3+ hours. Guess the game is pretty good, since I played it so long. I start watching youtube videos and realize how much stuff you can do in the game. I'm hooked.
