Hey guys,

Can't update the server until new bukkit has been released for all the plugins etc.... Will let you know when that is. Shouldn't be too long.

Word of warning, If you haven't already updated to 1.6. Don't do it. The update is pretty ****ed up overall and needs a new patch to fix a load of new bugs. Server won't be updated because there are so many issues atm. If you have 1.5 still you can keep playing as normal.

If you're like me and autoupdate, here is how to downgrade to version 1.5 (this was with Windows):

Click on Start-Run (or press Windows Key/R at the same time) and type this in:

%APPDATA%\.minecraft\bin

Hit enter and it'll bring up the minecraft java files. I had one called minecraft.jar (which was version 1.6) and one called something like minecraft1.5.0beta.jar.

I renamed minecraft.jar to minecraft.old, then renamed the other one to minecraft.jar.

Then, ran Minecraft and now I'm back in 1.5 and back on the server.

Caveat: I've got no idea if this is going to screw something up or not - will update if something goes horribly wrong

Any estimate on when the server will be on the new update? Want to see a map of our land.

Probably not any time soon.

Bukkit has been pretty good recently with releasing fast patches. I'd guess within 24 hours if they're on the ball and then whenever the host of the server is online to update it.

Except bukkit says they're not patching 1.6 right away b/c it's unplayable.

Like a pro I started singleplayer on peacefull, built a little dirt house and wandered around digging down to find some cool stuff.
I was kinda pissed when I realized monsters spawned inside my house when I switched to normal, rebuilt to stone and extended the house.

Next up farming wheat

Maps strike me as really lame so far. It just a thing you see in your hand, and it's not super easy to read. Might be helpful as you mine/get lost, but the zoom level on mine (it's variable apparently, just random decided when you make the map) it's not any more helpful than a compass would be- and way less help than things like the tectonius maps you can do server side.

Also wish that hatches attached to the top of the block and not the bottom.

Also, the inability to label or mark things on a map makes it kinda useless too.

Can you hang them on a wall or anything? If you could hang a big map on a wall and mark it and crap that would be awesome.

I'm sure they'll improve the map feature as they go. Do the current maps show your construction? I haven't had a chance to login yet.

I've just bought the game (1.6.4), and only have the current .bin file. Is there any way for me to get the 1.5 version? I haven't played the game at all, but would like to get on to the 2p2 server. It was the motivating factor for buying it.

Off to screw around locally to get the hang of it.

That's what my map looks like. It's just a zoomed out view of my area. Once it's filled out- it might be helpful getting me home if I was lost, but too zoomed out to be specific and useful for like working in caves or something.

yeh maps are kind of weak right now, the game is so simplistic though (which is part of why it's great) that I'm not too disapointed with it

I wouldn't mind if they could find a way to zoom into the map and look around it somehow though

Maps will have way more use in multiplayer, as you can see other peeps on them.

They're definitely a bit of a red herring at the moment, but we'll see if they become actually useful after more stuff is added to them.

Actually when it comes to maps the game may be more complicated than most since the gameworld is constantly reconstructed whereas in other games it pretty static for the most part.

In MP, beds are weird right now. If you click on one to sleep, it will seem like nothing's happening, but if you wait a few seconds, time will change. It's like it just doesn't show you the whole sleeping/waking up dialog.

I actually just meant the simple look of the game and in turn the map. Mapping in minecraft and writing a code that creates an in game tool for an every changing world is pretty complex and cool obv.

notch Markus Persson
I'm feeling very motivated. Minecraft Beta 1.7 wil be the Adventure Update (or similar).

he liked terraria so much that he is going to put adventure/dungeon/boss type stuff in minecraft in the next big patch

As part of my goal to make my complex 100% safe (aka nobody can spawn inside of it or get in- I think I'm as good as I'm going to get- only issue is spiders and I like killing them), I moved my tree farm outside the walls (bad dudes would spawn on the top of the trees) and replaced it with a flower garden, 'cause why the **** not? Bitches like flowers yo.

So I had to go pick flowers, as I'd already got everything close to me, and the map actually proved pretty useful in getting me home after my terrible in-game sense of direction got me lost.

Sad- somebody build a big wooden ship on our sever, but it looks like it got hit with lightening, as all that's left are the non-burnable parts. Not sure I love the inclusion of that feature. I know Notch nerfed fire (which makes using it to clear out a tree farm a bitch), but still- don't like seeing people's work go down just 'cause of random crap.

So friday I decided I was going to move areas on the 2p2 server. The area I've been building on has no continuity...

So I picked a random cool looking area and decided I was just going to start building w/ no plan.

Well what I ended up building w/ no plan was a giant freakin wood plank wall.

75x128x23

And I realized there wasn't a whole lot I could do with it.

So I decided meh.. I guess I'll flatten it.

I've decided I'm going to build a "minecraft adventure". The main goal of being something difficult.

So I decided to start with a maze (lots of verticle space for more mazes, redstone logic puzzles etc..)

(some changes have been made)

More pictures of shaving: http://s867.photobucket.com/albums/ab238/jkelsey1/

In the maze I want it to have a roof and to be able to spawn mobs. The problem is there still needs to be light so that the players can actually do the maze and kill the mobs.

I was thinking redstone torches as I have about 9 stacks of redstone but they give off such little light I'd probably have to have them every other square.

The only other idea I had was making the maze itself like 4-5 blocks tall and placing regular torches at the top and spread out which should provide enough light to function, but also allow mobs to spawn.

Anyways let me know what you guys think.

edit: before I put in the fake paths start to finish took me roughly 3 minutes.
edit2: we don't have tnt on our server.

Roughly 3 minutes? Braggart...

Looking good - do mobs spawn within the light radius of glowstone or those flaming blocks?

Sorry, been offline for a few days. Server is updated to newest 1.6.

Googogogog

I'm an idiot. Bukkit hasn't been updated. So none of the plugins work....
