So a few of us decided to set up a new private server to play with the rule set that we wanted. Got a pretty nice deal w/ a coupon on a new host for 6 months pre-paid on a pretty high end server. So far no lag, chunk errors, nether works fine etc...

But anyways we decided to do a server project and build a large mob tower trap.

First was the digging. We went from roughly level 70 to level 9. All digging done by hand, mostly with iron picks as we don't have much diamonds yet. No tnt yet either.

Then we built the tower itself. It goes from level 9, to level 128. First few levels are the killing mechanism. Basically most mobs die due to impact after falling. If they do not the lava blade is there to finish them off. All loot is sent to a collection area.

After the killing area is the spawning floors which are basically just levels of cobble with 3x3 holes in the corner, then 3 wide 8 long water channels pushing the mobs into the corners so they drop to their doom. I do not have any screenshots of the spawning floors. They go all the way up to the top.

And finally the results. With almost no optimization and lighting up of caves/surrounding areas. We have a 2000 item per hour mob trap. These inventory shots are the before / after for 15 minutes.

I can barely get inspired to log in at all, let alone start all over AGAIN on a new server...so I'll be around. ...plus I've already donated. *shrug*

After farming wool for hours and hours and hours I've gotten burned out on the game and just taking a break.

Here is the Space Shuttle I built, made entirely of wool, and some glass for the cockpit. I'm about 98% done with it, for the most part.

Here is after finishing the rockets. My Empire State Building is also included.

And here is pretty much the completed space shuttle, but not completely finished:

For these huge structures do you guys use blueprints you find somewhere or do you just freestyle/trial and error through them?

I open Excel, change the columns to 4.00 width and the rows to 24.00 height and then zoom out to 75 or 50% depending on how big I'm going and then I just create the design on there.

Here are my plans that I made. I didn't follow them exactly because when I got towards the end I realized that it didn't look exactly right. It looked good on Excel, but once I put it together it didn't look right. You can't see the grid lines as I had to zoom it out to 26% just to get all of my plans in this picture to show you what I do. The gray tower at the right is supposed to be a tower that you can go up and then enter in through the side of the shuttle and then be able to look through the cockpit windows and down through the floor through the shuttle. Obv. I haven't done it yet as I'm not completely thrilled with my design. It was just a quick sketch as I was looking at a picture of the shuttle.

I think the ground base is 48x48.

Edit: Here is what I see. It's more zoomed in so you can see the gridlines.

Thanks.

I was trying that link, but I was having a problem with it not registering the clicks. It might have trouble being compatible with firefox.

I like using excel. It's just quick and easy.

I use minecraftstructureplanner for my big stuff. It's a java 3d app. The sphere I posted earlier (post 809) was done on it, as well as the temple in this pic. The head was freehand.

Edit: The server is no cheat, all blocks were farmed and placed manually. By "freehand" I meant "built and planned in-game"

Hmm - now that I look at them side by side it's not as impressive, but that's only because you can't see the diving board.
