Got AC - Black flag when it was a daily deal and having a lot of fun with it. I have such an ambivalent relationship to the AC-series - I hated the first one, somehow still bought and really liked the second one and got bored to tears right at the start and never got more than a few ours into the third one.

Black flag is possibly the best I've tried of the series yet though - although I don't understand why they still haven't fixed the terrible free-running mechanic. Why does your character still insist on jumping into every hiding spot and suddenly do moronic 90 degree turns to jump on top of pointless stuff when you're chasing after someone or something?

Why don't the developers just pick up a copy of Infamous and get a clue about how stuff like this could and should work?

Funny you say that as I was checking out Black Flag just now and came here to do a search.

Liked AC1 but it got really repetitive, didn't like II and didn't bother buying any since.

Watched the IGN review for Black Flag and it does look sweet, how would you rate it out of 10 so far?

It's funny how you two have totally different opinions on what was fun and what not but you still ask him if you should buy the game.

Liking AC1 and not AC2 seems weird. AC1 was very repetitive and boring after the first couple hours. AC2 was great and is the best AC game (Not including Black Flag which I haven't played).

Although with regards to ACI and II, I just thought they got repetitive more than anything. The new one does look cool though.

You are probably right, it was that long ago since I last played them.
The more I think about it the more it was probably II I enjoyed more.

I'm still not really sure, but I've spent about 10 hours since yesterday with it, so it's certainly very good. It's reminding me a bit of Far Cry 3 in many aspects - it has the same hunting and skinning animals to upgrade equipment and it seems to have a ton of different stuff to do. I would've found more stuff to do if I wasn't so ocd and had to clean out the first town of all collectables and stuff before moving on

The hunting is pretty basic though - not that FC3s was all that advanced, but in BF you can one-shot everything (at least as far as I've gotten which is aligators) and there's not much tracking involved.

The whole pirate-theme is working really well though - the ocean and islands look beautiful and there are pirates to be recruited, buried treasures to be found and ships to be plundered. There's also underwater stuff to do I understand, but I haven't gotten far enough to unlock that yet it seems.

Yea, agreed. I thought AC 1 was awesome the first few hours but it got so incredibly repetitive and the forced "you must now leave the game to walk around a lab, sleep and do other totally pointless stuff that do nothing but break up the game for you"-stuff out of the animus was really terribly done.

AC2 fixed almost all of that, added a ton of collectables, a castle to furnish and collect for and while it still had the out-of-animus-stuff, it was not so bad and actually had a decent storyline of its own.

It was 25% off.
