Actually I remember CMAR and Mpeth had some argument over this lol. have fun!
yes you are correct. the rationale for the 2nd calculation has no basis whatsoever.

When we have a hand that has value, we don't want a fold, but regardless we are cbetting because we want more money in the pot and we are valueCbetting. Plus we get the future value.

When we are bluffCbetting, we are trying to price ourselves into a profitable situation based on what is currently already in the pot.

And we can't really include the isolate/c/f line in this equation at all as that's a completely seperate function.

So the 2nd calculation means nothing. I think too much ldo.

Re: *****Official February "greatest place on the interwebs" Chat Thread!*****

The only even remotely similar debate I recall engaging in was related to criticizing the c-bet filter in the tracking software. I object to the industry standard configuration of not distinguishing between a continuation bet and a value bet, and others were defending the current tracking software practice ("there's no reason to distinguish between them in the software because your opponents can't tell the difference.")

But I don't know if CMAR was one of those people arguing against me.

And as I said in my pm to you, JH1, I hope I was not foolish enough to argue math with CMAR!

Glad you sorted it out, sorry I couldn't help.

The only thing I can think of that resembles this is the lengthy discussion about whether or not to cbet A-high flops when you have KK.

I have no idea who was involved in that discussion though.

lol

I'm shocked if I have that reputation - Math classes were a pretty big factor in why I dropped out of college (three mandatory math classes per semester for a computer science degree is ridic IMHO.)

Well that and not giving a crap...

Re: *****Official February "greatest place on the interwebs" Chat Thread!*****

thanks Mpethy and CMAR. I was really hoping that such a debate did take place would have been interesting.

and yeah, totally agree about maths being needed for a computer science degree. that's why i don't have my computer scienece degree either like i planned to. i mean really, vector geometry and linear algebra. really? now statistics was fun... and easy... more statistics, less geometry.

^ oh my, i'm turning into my father in law. story: he is a freak about having brushes in the house to clean your fingernails and the one i had was apparently not sufficient. one day i'm out getting coffee at Tim Horton's and i get back and he says, "Less Tim Horton's, more brushes." at MY house. omg.

[obligatory sample size warning] Stars $100 plays the same as FT $50. Evidence; one of these things is not like the other:

yeah, that was the point of the graphs. FT $100 plays waaaay more aggro than Stars $100, which really does play like FT $50.

I advise anybody playing FT $50 to take a shot at Stars $100; you may be pleasantly surprised.

Re: *****Official February "greatest place on the interwebs" Chat Thread!*****

k i'm going to attempt to plug an obvious obvious obvious massive leak i have that i have known about for well over 6 months.

It's simple. Get raised on the turn: FOLD. Get raised on the river: FOLD. c/c River? NO. JUST FOLD. Stop being such a station.

This comes as a somewhat ldo suprise to me after actually reviewing and filtering the last 3 months of my database. I would have had ~$1k more in my account than I do right now if I had just listened to myself since Dec.1 <--- stupid

wish me luck.

I remember playing 25 and 50NL in 2004ish on UB and most flops were seen by 4+ people. If someone raised it meant AA, KK, AK, QQ and maybe JJ or AQs. You could open-shove 100bb on a board of 89TJ with KQ and be called by any 2 pair, set, naked Q or 7 and sometimes a naked single pair. If I knew then what I know now about multi-tabling and poker play, I would guess a player could make $150+/hr at 50NL.

I don't know why, but there is something about seeing bad regs being forced to shortstack and play 50BB stacks that makes me feel really happy. Is that bad?

oh and also for my leak: some people are playing back at you. But it's like 1/200 people and they make it so obvious it's exploitable. The rest: they are not playing back. Just fold.

Re: *****Official February "greatest place on the interwebs" Chat Thread!*****

Just had a scare at Stars tonight:

I played about 1400 hands of $100 at FT and booked a $304 win. Took a break and signed on to Stars $100 to mess around some. Within 300 hands I had lost $300 and it was starting to look like one of THOSE nights where you can't catch a break.

Then I got a rush of cards--I was simultaneously: all in preflop 3 ways with AA; all in with KK on a K77 flop and flopping bottom set on an uncoordinated board. AA held against KK and AQs, KK was the nuts against a full stack and a short stack and villain folded to my river CRAI with the set. Ship, ship $390 profit on the three hands. Finished 700 hands up on Stars $105 and plus $410 on the night.

whew, close call.
