Re: *****Official February "greatest place on the interwebs" Chat Thread!*****

Yeah if you go to one of the video threads in the sticky, all the threads are there but some of the video links are dead (most are). I'll go through them when I get home tonight and send you a list of usernames, stakes, and videos that are still working. That way there can be one giant video list instead of 2 old ones with some working, some not, etc. Props for keeping that thread up to date though, my first few weeks here it was like my homepage

Re: *****Official February "greatest place on the interwebs" Chat Thread!*****

Everything in the two "Video Archive" threads should be in the "Videos sorted by buy-in" and "Videos sorted by poster" lists.

I've gone through everything up to and including 50NL and there've only been a few missing videos (Turns out I don't have to wait the 60 seconds for Megaupload to allow the downloads, you can tell right away if they're functional or not). Megaupload doesn't seem to ever expire files.

Done - About 75 videos total.

A ton of videos added, we now have a pretty big stockpile. However, actually very few for 2NL and 5NL (only one 2NL video). If anybody wants to make a video that sticks out, I think there's a niche there especially now that FTP has added lower stakes too. Particularly a video exploiting the deep stack play at these stakes...
I'll do it this week.

They're not like the Stars tables. They have std. 20-100bb and deep 50-200bb buy in tables, like at the other limits.

I know some stars players who have had several avatar changes. Mind you if you played more than 400 hands a month they might let you too.

I like your avatar, don't change it on stars. I thought you could change them whne ever you want? I've changed mine once and I hate my current one but it does blend into the background a bit.

Just returning from a weekend back home. It was nice to be back in the old country. I'll be reading up on the important threads today; I finished this one first.

Sorry, but I have to disagree here. A low variance game doesn't lead to high variance in the long term. A low winrate doesn't lead to high variance neither. Winrate and variance are two independent statistics. The fact is that a higher winrate cushions the effects of variance in the sense that you are less likely to go on long downswings despite high variance.

This may be related to our habit to equate variance with downswings.

We were just having this fight over in B&M too!

Variance is deviation from expectation.

Poker players tend to misuse the term to refer to losing or breakeven stretches. This seems to be very common, very. But its just a colloquialism within the subculture, and it kinda bends my mind getting both meanings into the same idea.

Lower variance can lead to longer breakeven stretches and deeper losing streaks. That's what everyone means.

But many say lower variance leads to higher variance.

Re: *****Official February "greatest place on the interwebs" Chat Thread!*****

Interesting subject,
all I know it's all in the head
If every hand is a new situation you just have to forget about the last situation you lost

All you have is a change to winning a certain pot, you have to deal with the fact you aren't suppose to win the pot. You have a good change to win the pot, that's all.

Ofcourse somebody can say that he or she runs bad, if you know you are a winning player and every session you win small or lose then you know the cards hasn't been treating you quit well

But, lets say I would have started to grind without 2p2 (i would be broke, but still, picture it) I would never called this period a doomswitch, or a doomswing, or running bad..

I would probably say something like: Well, I have been lucky for such a long time and now luck in on their side, it's still playing cards where you have to get lucky that your hand hold up (and then still throw my telephone to the wall)

I find it super hard to think this way when I keep losing but it's the truth. It's just battles my logic: Playing better then your opponent = win

That just isn't the truth in poker
