Creating a political environment where the prosecution is not popular can make a difference to the case. We obv also need to address our legislatures to get it legalized.

This is the time to be doing that. After the dust settles, media outlets and gov't officials aren't going to care. But right now, because it is a new issue, they do. We have a small window of time to crash the airwaves/media outlets/gov't officials until nobody cares anymore. This is the time to get the issue in people's minds. The majority of people agree with us when they hear about the issue; it's getting it out there that we need to concentrate on. In fact, out of all the articles I've read, the only one against regulating poker is in the Christian Science Monitor, which makes the argument that if poker is a skill game, then why do so many organizations like Vegas casinos want to run poker sites to earn so much profit? Yes, that seriously was one of their arguments.

Not trying to act like a cheerleader here, but poker players are pretty lazy (myself included).
+a million to this

even if it is just writing one letter a day, calling one rep a day, or even emailing political talk and commentary shows. Just 15-20 minutes a day from everybody for an extended period of time could make a huge difference. railing about this stuff for 15 minutes and then forgetting doesn't really accomplish anything.

and I'm not saying that because I've been any better than you guys. I've been just as complacent in the past, only sending form letters when bills were in front of congress or something like that. But obviously my laziness and disregard has to come to an end, and I'm hoping you guys are with me.

top prosecutors are either elected or appointed by people who are elected, it's the nature of the beast.

so whats the story for cashing out on ftp from canada from people who live there and americans who traveled there? I want to book my flight to vancouver but i keep hearing conflicting stories. Ive had some friends tell me there friends were able to cashout and stuff, and then others tell me thats false. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

as far as "getting the word out" goes, i wonder how useful it would be for the PPA or some other groups...hell even ftp or stars....to put some stuff in major newspapers or even on massive billboards in high traffic areas around a few major cities for awhile. would probably spark some attention and force the government to address the issue at least

I forgot to add this:

READ THIS SHOULD YOU LIVE ABROAD FOR 6 MONTHS+: As an American living abroad, you are most likely qualified for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion Act. Basically, if you spend less than 30 days in the United States in a 365 day span (note this can be from any start date), your first $90,000 you earn will be TAX FREE. This is a $30,000 value. Be smart about it, it's for this reason that I can't play in the WSOP in the future when I move abroad.

For anyone who knows more about it, I've never asked but how does that first 90k you earn affect your tax bracket? If you make 270k and your first 90k is tax exempt, the highest tax bracket is at 250k/annual right? So are you in that bracket or the step below?

Here's an interesting little blog entry concerning bank fraud. I just want to note that the case he refers to in the blog is from the 7th Circuit and the SDNY is in the 2nd Circuit, so that case technically is not binding for the Court in the SDNY to follow. http://craakker.blogspot.com/2011/04...ing-poker.html

I think he makes it pretty easy to follow for the layman.

nah highest US tax bracket for individuals is if you make over 373k...itd be 35%

also if youre filing single and only make 90k and got to exclude all of it, youre saving 16,343 in tax dollars. thats assuming a standard deduction and one exemption.

accounting major obv

You have to file as a professional to take advantage of this. If poker income is gambling income as opposed to self-employed professional poker player income, that gambling income cannot be excluded.

almost positive youre still in your 270k's bracket. it is a "below the line" tax credit and the amount saved is just subtracted from what your taxed owed would have been

The income excluded is only from the time you're out of the country correct? So say you were living abroad April 2011-April 2012, the exclusion would come from the money earned during that time and you can't use it on money earned in the entirety of 2011?

Edit: To be more specific, say you move away in July of 2011, by the time taxes are due next year you won't have had enough days to be qualified so you can't deduct what you made from July until the end of 2011. So do you just file an extension until you get enough days to be qualified?

Not sure how the IRS works out the 330 day thing in 2 separate years, but that is how it works. I would say something else to consider is the future US financial situation.

This basically shows that the gov wont be able to pay for its mandatory spending thanks to interest on the public debt and baby boomers retiring/going on medicare. Take a big guess how this problem will be solved.

Ya I just asked because it got brought up. If moving abroad is something I look at more seriously, I'll ask my CPA and post what I find out.

The Weeknd -Glass Table Girls

If you like this definitely check out the whole album, it's called House of Balloons. Its kinda R&B'ish but the beats and the lyrics both have a really dark vibe. Not my usual type of music but this album is awesome.
