Bad Vegan I'm not sure how to rate this one. It sucked us in for sure but ultimately wasn't as satisfying as the first episode suggested it might be. Could have achieved what they wanted with one less episode.

I'll put some thoughts in spoilers.

Spoiler:
It felt like it was going to be more, but ultimately it was just about a conman and a really stupid woman. She played the victim but at some point she was either in on it, or just incredibly stupid.

She never had one iota of remorse except for a little for her mother.

I was amazed at the lack of punishment. A few months in jail for each for embezzling over $6 million. Unbelievable.

Oh yeah, and that last phone call. Geez, she'll go right back to him I'm guessing.

Just watched an episode of Kojak from 1977...it was so bizarre.

This gypsy girl wants to marry her BF, but her father won't allow it without a $40k dowry. The BF then recognizes, randomly, the men who killed his family back in "Gypsy Land." The gypsies vow revenge, but unbeknownst to them, the man they think is the killer is actually a man who helped their families escape, and he wants to return sacred Gypsy relics to them.

Meanwhile, an animal lover who works at the zoo goes around murdering women who wear fur - you know, prostitutes - ?? - and this Crazy Gypsy Lady leader who is trying to get the father of the girl to let her marry the BF, finds a prostitute who had run from the serial killer who then leads them to the identity of the killer.

At the same time, she goes to Kojack - oh yeah, Kojack is in this - wearing a blonde wig and fur coat and garish lipstick and a New Yawk accent - pretending to have been attacked by the fur coat killer, and gives the police a description of the man the other gypsies are stalking and about kill - in order to protect him.

And when I say gypsies, I mean gypsies. Like carnival gypsies with scarves and earrings and Fiddler On the Roof-style weddings. Oh yes, those crazy Gypsy kids did get married after all, her grumpy father not making the BF pay the dowry.

Kojack and the Crazy Gypsy Lady Leader go off arm-in-arm, presumably on a date. Of course, Kojack is gonna get some. Did you have any doubt?

***

I don't remember 70s-era cop show were so convoluted. My GF and I were looking at one another, confused, through the whole thing. It was so weird. I swear, this was like a David Lynch movie starring Telly Savalas.

Anyway, next up: The Rockford Files.

I would have rated Colombo and Kojack higher, even though they are near the top.
Clive James was once puzzled why that Kojack could dress so well and Colombo so poorly when they must have been on essentially the same salary.

The Rockford files was only just behind Kojack and Columbo. I believe that it was where the expression “too cool for school “ came from.

I am not sure what you are talking about, if you are referring to the IMDB list link I posted, Make sure it is sorted at the top by IMDB Rating. Columbo is #1 on the list followed by Barney Miller, and Rockford Files #4.

This list is a bit confusing, the numbers don’t seem to correspond to the rankings.

I think I'll probably binge Amazon's Outer Range once all the eps are up. What a bs trend this is, parceling these out one at a time now wtf, it's not 1986 anymore you *******s.

It is good, but I'm not sure I want to live in a world where Lily Taylor is playing a grandmother. It's the same as last year with Kate Winslet in Mare Of Eastown.

I agree! I won't watch anything on a streaming service unless it is all there. I guess the theory is they are trying to create watercooler type buzz but I don't think that will ever work.

Let's see, we have a few older shows in rotation via Hulu or Netflix:

Star Trek TNG
Stargate SG1
Just Shoot Me
Wings
Picard
Resident Alien
Ozarks

And coming up when they return:

Stranger Things
The Boys
Better Call Saul (back today)
Umbrella Academy
Cobra Kai

We're almost done Star Trek TNG's last season. Might put Farscape back on the rewatch list, been a minute.

I'm just not that impressed with Outer Range after 2 eps., think I'm probably out for now. I'm buying the brooding menacing patriarch Josh Brolin bigtime but not the sons at all.

After 4 episodes, I’m digging Outer Range.

And the first two episodes of Slow Horses is pretty good, too

I've been watching Slow Horses, and I enjoy the performance of Gary Oldman immensely as the exiled intelligence officer put out to pasture. Of course, he's better than those in command.

Also like Julia for some reason. You might think a show about Julia Child can't quite go anywhere, but it does.

We're watching both as well.

I'm on the fence with Outer Range. I'll stick with it for a bit longer.

Agree on Slow Horses.

We are still binging Downton Abbey. Really like it.

It seems we've gone from famine to feast on streaming choices. For a while we couldn't find anything we cared for. Now we have to pick and choose. Probably due to not filming for a bit due to covid.

If you like Downton Abbey give Gentleman Jack, The Gilded Age and even Bridgerton a try

My super awesome Outer Range story: I flew back to Albuquerque from Vegas after the series last November and took an uber from the airport. My driver was a really cool guy and we talked the entire trip. He was telling me about how he moved to Albuquerque from LA to act which surprised me. He told me about how there's so many people attempting to get roles in LA and how there weren't many in Albuquerque at all. I asked how it was going and he told me he got a role on a new Josh Brolin show. He was playing a bartender in a few scenes and even had a speaking role for Brolin. Awesome!

We continue talking and he eventually pulls up to my place and as I'm getting out, I'll tell him I'll look out for him bartending. He snaps his head to glare at me and shoots out, "WHAT DID YOU SAY?" To which I meekly replied, "You said you'll be bartending on that Brolin thing right?" And he calmed down and said "Oh oh, yeah. The bartending role."

I did not think about the other way what I said could be taken. I felt like an ass when it dawned on me.
