You mean when they played Kurt Cobain's "Something in the Way" over and over again?

I already posted my problems with Batman, but since it is being brought up with the HBO release: the movie's tone is really excellent, but the film falls short in way too many ways to be good. It's a B- at best.

I didn't enjoy The Batman either, and i like most of them.

I found it too dark, too goth/emo'y , the story wasnt even great and as pointed out in Pokerlogist's post+spoiler i agree with all that. Ive a few friends also really into superhero stuff and they said same. I wouldn't even rewatch it in 5yrs if it was the only film on TV at the time.

The new spiderman was fun to watch

I also watched Uncharted - i liked it its easy to watch nothing groundbreaking but id watch a sequel too.

Just caught your detailed critique now and pretty much agree with what you said and very good point re it ultimately having no balls re Thomas Wayne & Catwoman.

Koreeda's After Life, which is on Criterion, is superb. There's even a commentary available.

I wish I could see his Shoplifters.

That's all well and good, but I'm not sure how that is relevant in the least to my reply to Pokerlogist demonstrating that Spider-Man, not The Batman, has been "the biggest hit by far for 2021/2022 movies."

Fair point, I was drinking. I would guess a lot of that is because of the target audience for each. I assume Spiderman audience is a lot younger than the batman audience.

I can count on one hand the number of movies I saw in theaters the past 2 decades. I can count on the other hand the number of movies I rented. I am gen x.

Spiderman caters to millennials and gen z I assume based on the one's I watched on streaming the last 10 years. Spiderman cast is much younger, themes less dark, etc.

After the americans left, a movie was eventually made by Seijun Suzuki, who would go on to make stuff like Tokyo Drifter and Pistol Opera.

I think that is true for the most part, but this latest one is a bit of an exception because it also stars Toby Maguire who was the Spider-Man in the first three movies starting 20 years ago, (as well as bringing back the villains from those movies), so the young fans who went to see those movies are now that much older. Not to mention fans of Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man from 10 years ago. That probably helps to explain why it is the 6th highest grossing film of all time and even vastly outperformed all of the previous Spider-Man movies, even after adjusting for inflation.

And yeah, yeah, yeah, I know the erudite denizens of this form don't care about box office numbers, but I still find it interesting.

The Nameless No-No is the title of my first movie. The script and score are already fleshed out. Production will begin when funding comes through.

Filming will take place entirely in Italy.

Stay tuned for updates.

I finally watched Inherent Vice for only the second time after being completely underwhelmed and actually Confused by it when I saw it in the theaters... It has immediately grown into somewhat of an obsession now, as it's affects on me have taken hold.

The film makes SO MUCH more sense upon a second viewing and the appreciation of the level of detail and depth in both story and art direction have really made a significant impression on me... specially in terms of the performances and long single take shots... eg: the love making scene.

I need to immediately watch this again... at night... partaking.

I need to give it another try then, as I could not get beyond 30 minutes upon my only viewing!

Very much agree with all of this. Gets better with every rewatch, I've probably seen it 8 or 10 times

I’ll watch it again then, because I had the exact same first impression. Wanted to love it too

Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent could have been more than just a fun film with a stronger, more reflective script that firmly embraced its conceit. Nic Cage doesn't send himself up quite enough. Overall it's just a silly laugh when it could have been more.

The Northman, Robert Eggers, 2022

I will avenge you, Father. I will save you, Mother. I will kill you Fjölnir.

Holy shyte. Best movie I've seen since maybe Mandy, BR2049, or Mad Max: Fury Road.
Robert Eggers' beautiful, brutal Viking epic - a telling of the original Hamlet myth - is so gloriously bonkers that I basically watched the whole movie with my mouth open.

The 4 leads: Alexander Skarsgard, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, and Anya Taylor Joy are all superb, with nice cameos by Ethan Hawke, Bjork, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Inneson.

The movie treads between the harsh realties of what life must of been like back then, and the mysticism and religion of those same times quite expertly. There is no real delineation between the two, and that makes both somehow more real.

I can't quite put any more words down describing it - I'm still in shock. The ending has Skasrgard and Bang, naked and wielding swords and shields on the cliffs of an active volcano - the gates of hell - in a fight to the death.

This is a brutal, bloody movie - but it never seems gratuitous.

It's a shame, because it's bombing in theaters for some unknown reason...so if you want to go see it, go see The Northman on the big screen before it's too late.

Truly spectacular filmmaking.

I've been hoping something like this would come to Las Vegas, and now it finally is... if you're in Vegas or going to be here, it's gonna be great.

$35 ticket is a deal.

Viking movies just aren't culturally diverse enough for me these days.
