In what way is it a 'remake?

1970's?
Delusional properties?
Mirror scene?
Alienated character?
Late night host?

That's a remake?

'Not bloody likely'... sounds more like a indication of modern society than that of a repurposed film. Scorsese certainly didn't invent the maladjusted delusional character even if he was credited with perfecting it... nearly.

Joker is a sexually ambivalent, abused and disgarded human being pushed beyond a breaking point and forced to react in a animalistic manner to those he see as causing his tribulations.

Joker is given up on as an infant... Joker is abused physically and sexually as a child... Joker is used as a sexual toy as an adult... Joker is seen as disposable by the establishment and 'norms of society'...

Joker is realistically portrayed... unlike 'king of comedy' or 'taxi driver' which resolve in a moralistic manner where good conquerors evil and happiness prevails, Joker unleashes wrath of horrific and grounded consequences... life is not a fairy tale.

Happiness, Gay, is at the forefront of this character when Aurthurs forced feminine behavior is acted out as if it was a 'learned behavior' that was cultivated over years of sexual abuse, and indeed this was still evident in his current life when Randall 'the clown' touts 'you know you're my BOY' as he gives Aurthur a key to the relief... a gun. As a matter of fact, the metamorphosis scene of Aurther Fleck into Joker takes place... IN A PUBLIC RESTROOM.

The most Horrific part to the joker story is not when he lashes out at societal norms in the form of three wall street traders, when Aurthur rams a pair of Emasculating SCISSORS into the neck of his most recent serial abuser Randall 'the clown', or when a public figure and game show host MURRAY Franklin is executed in a live stream broadcast... No. The most Horrific cleansing was that of a very innocent Sophie Dumond and her daughter at the hands of a fully realized serial murderer.

I think the most terrifying aspect to the film for me personally is that... There really are people in the world like Aurther Fleck.

Taxi Driver... King of Comedy... I think not.

El Camino was alright, but it was not at all necessary.

His other (first) movie is Beyond The Black Mirror, which I have raved about before. It's a different vibe from Mandy; much less action, 100% less Nic Cage and way more psychedelic ****. Visuals and soundtrack are lit, though, def you should watch it if you loved Mandy. Turn off the lights and crank up the sound.

Hell yes, I shall watch this. TY.

Bone Tomahawk was intense. Solid western that is most def an original take on the genre. Some plot holes, but I was glued to the screen the whole time. Not for the faint of heart though.

High Society Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby hit on Grace Kelly the night before she is supposed to get married to some no name guy that doesn't sing. She picks Bing and Frank settles for some other woman.

Meh. Not much of a comedy or musical. The best part was the jazz number with Louis Armstrong.

Dust in the Wind (1986 - Hou Hsiao-Hsien)

Loved the opening scene and was pretty into it for the first 30-40 minutes. It's really beautifully shot, as far as i can tell well-acted, and the score that comes in now and then is nice and melancholy. But after the first 30 minutes the story, or the nuances of it at least, became a little hard for me to follow. So it became somewhat boring. Still, was worth a watch for the mood and visuals.

Racer and the Jailbird (2017 - Michael R. Roskam)

Watched this mainly because of Adele Exarchopoulos. I haven't seen any of her movies after Blue is the Warmest Color, and this seemed like it could be entertaining. But it wasn't, really. There's a scene of a highway robbery of a money truck that was cool, other than that I didn't find it very exciting or engaging. Directed by the guy who made Bullhead and The Drop.

Can we talk about the fact that the Cheddar Goblin is simultaneously the most adorable and the most terrifying thing about the movie Mandy? This **** ain't right. I am 100% creeped out right now.

Watched Dead of Night last night and showed When Harry Met Sally . . . tonight in class. Dead of Night features a creepy bit with Michael Redgrave as a haunted ventriloquist.

JOKER (2019)

I figured I would like this movie, but I didn’t know it would be quite this good. As with most movies I love right away I’ll need to watch it again to make sure it’s as good as I think it is.

I disagree with anyone who said it’s a ripoff of Taxi Driver and others, or give that as a valid reason to negatively critique the film. A good film can be derivative of others without copying it, and parts of Joker are familiar, but the overall story arc and especially how it ties into the formation of a villain with scores of movie appearances is completely original and deserves merit. Hell, even if Phillips’ goal was to make Taxi Driver with Fleck as Bissell, i would still appreciate the originality of the idea.

I thought it was fantastic, and the final transformation and scene as the Joker we all know was completely masterful -creepy and funny and disturbing and sad and - so dark - all at the same time. Since I didn’t read anything going in, the violence was completely unexpected and mesmerizing.

Phoenix deserves the highest praise.

In today’s age of sugar coats and outrage for the sake of it, I yearn for a good ol’ f*cked up movie. I loved it.

Just watched a preview showing of Countdown. Very entertaining thriller / horror / black comedy with some commentary on how many people are addicted to looking at their phones.

I didn't think Glass was all that bad. It's part of Bruce Willis's a-little-bit-too-old-to-be-an-action-hero oeuvre, but other than that, what's not to like? Of course, I tend to leave my skepticism at home when I go to the movies.

Perhaps it would be instructive if Dom ran a Cheerleaders-in-Chains-Movie draft, and we could see where it falls in the hierarchy of the genre.

The Magic Gloves (2003 - Martin Rejtman)

Liked this a lot more than Silvia Prieto. The characters still deadpan every absurd bit of dialogue, but everything else - the story, the visuals and sound - is more lively this time around. And it has a great ending scene. Really enjoyed it.
