I don't remember a movie like parasite lasting that long in my local theater. it must be 5 months straight here.

Terminator: Geriatrics

Problems with static electricity: Please use proper grounding!

Snowplows in Mexico City: check.

Obligatory Junkies in a drugstore scene: check.

Mifune/Musashi flyswatter scene: check.

Mother Mary: comes to me!

The wooded hills of Laredo: check.

I can change diapers efficiently and I am extremely funny: check.

Potato chips: Internet of ****!

Aerial delivery: Saves the day!

Noche de los Muertos: Terrible mess to clean up!

Much better than you are expecting it to be. Ahnold and Sarah acquit themselves well, and there are enough young people to keep the movie regular. Check it out.

I honestly couldn't believe how dark they made the Joker. Holy ****.

My only complaint is that the trailer contained the entire movie.

Hmmm. The sound track was my favorite part. I think the flick would be better if it didn't keep devolving into corniness.

I was hoping to get a chance to see The Irishman during its limited release in theaters before it's consigned to Netflix later this month, but I was extremely disheartened to learn that it won't be playing anywhere in Miami (or even all of South Florida for that matter).

The closest theater that is showing it is in Bonita Springs on the west coast of Florida, about 135 miles away. In fact, that theater in Bonita Springs is the only theater in the entire state of Florida where you can go to see the movie.

I realize that Netflix wants people to watch the movie on its streaming service rather than in a movie theater, but that's just plain ridiculous.

They are only showing it in theatres for Oscar qualification. They don’t care if it sells one ticket.

Enjoyed the latest Terminator, nice resolution; especially since I saw the first one all those years ago. Having a beer to celebrate.

Agree on closed captioning, disagree on the sound. It’s a fun movie.

Yes, I'm obviously aware of that. However, they could have qualified it for Oscar consideration by simply screening it in one theater for one week in Los Angeles county. So if they're going to go through the effort of screening it at multiple locations in multiple states throughout the country, why not screen it in more major cities? What was the point of choosing one theater in one small town in the entire state of Florida? Why screen it in Florida at all if that is all you're going to do?

That's the only point I'm making. I'm just venting.

The Unbelievable Truth (Hal Hartley, 1989)

Very enjoyable. Adrienne Shelly was great. Fun fact that i didn't notice in the movie but saw on the cast list after: Kelly Reichardt, now a famous indie director herself, has a small acting part here.

American Gigolo (Paul Schrader, 1980)

Rewatch. Even better than I remembered, love this movie.

'R Xmas (Abel Ferrara, 2001)

Feels slighter than The Blackout and New Rose Hotel, but still odd and beautiful. He goes even heavier here on the use of dissolves, to sometimes striking effect (the driving scenes in particular are stunning). Schoolly D score is nice once again. Plus great performances by Drea de Matteo and, surprisingly, Lilo Brancato. Not so great performance from Ice-T.

That is a good question. Do they have to show it a certain number of places to qualify?

I thought it was only showing in a few independent theaters because the big theaters want a 6 week run time before it goes to Netflix and Netflix wants a 2 or 3 week runtime.

This makes sense. From what I understand the money going to theatres in the first couple weeks is tiny. They only make money when a movie sticks around for a long time.

Zombieland 2
Not a bad time but super forgettable. Felt like watching 5 episodes of a TV show with a very limited main plot.

No, just one theater in Los Angeles county, for 7 days in succession, with a minimum of 3 showings a day, one of which must begin between 6pm - 10pm.

That's true, but most major cities have independent theaters that would have loved to screen the movie. I know that we have several art cinemas and other independent theaters here in Miami that would not have required a multi-week commitment.

I’d say it’s a guilty pleasure, but I don’t feel guilty. This is one my favourite feel good films. I love it.

Sorry for missing you - Ken Loach directed polemic about the gig economy. It’s a worthy topic but the film’s just a bit too on the nose and preachy.

I think that was the whole point. Those movies were corny and outrageous. The sex scene was taken from Dolemite's 2nd movie and they replicated the entire scene.

I watched David Michôd's The King last night on Netflix. (Yet another Netflix movie I would have enjoyed watching in a movie theater.) Although Henry V is not my favorite Shakespearean story (or are any of the Henriad plays for that matter), I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

For anyone who is interested in English history, keep in mind that this is very much a retelling of Shakespeare's Henry V (with a few changes, one of which is discussed below), and is not based solely on historical fact. So for example, the fictional Falstaff is a major character here. And by major I mean much more so than Shakespeare gave to him. Most likely because the actor who plays him in the movie, Joel Edgerton, also cowrote the screenplay, lol. But I was fine with that because Edgerton was one of the best things about the movie. I wasn't quite as enamored with Timothee Chalamet's Henry; perhaps because I'm used to watching Lawrence Olivier and Kenneth Branagh in the role. It wasn't enough to keep me from enjoying the movie however.

Here's a trailer:

^^excited to check that out, really liked The Rover

Crimes of Passion (Ken Russell, 1984)

Wild and strange, really beautiful to look at. Saw one review on Letterboxd describe it as a "psychosexual neon cum puddle" which seems about right. I liked it.

Go Go Tales (Abel Ferrara, 2007)

Something of a homage to The Killing of a Chinese Bookie. Again striking visually, impressive camerawork and editing, the dissolves are gone for this one tho. Willem Dafoe is great in the lead, as are the rest of the cast including Bob Hoskins, Roy Dotrice, Asia Argento and Matthew Modine. Another good movie from Ferrara.
