The imposter was too good.

One of the most bizarre stories ever

ya alabama dies in the original script.

tarantino has said that while he disagreed with tony's vision/story changes at first after he saw the finished movie he realized that tony was right the whole time and he loved it.

tho he did say that if alabama ever shows up in one of his movies she's going to be dead

the sicilian scene is prolly the GOAT.

It's hard to put one's finger on it... It sucked me in, it was a great ride... and like I was the third person sitting at that table and listening interesting thoughts on various subjects (derived from a rich experience) from a person who speaks with great eloquence...Wally, who mostly listens, provides a nice balance when he expresses his opinions... It lifted my spirits up, inspired me... It is like you asked what do people find so good about great conversations...

Not that I'm a huge LOTR fan, but Amazon has the bluray trilogy on sale for $39.99. Unless you've already double/triple/quad dipped, it's an unbeatable deal.

Has anyone seen The Words; what did you think?

Why are you only talking about the big budget movies?

There is a glut of incredible independent and foreign cinema right now that is more accessible than ever before.

Blockbusters have been dumbed down? Sure, probably true. But don't stand in the one place and complain about the crappy scenery!

Where are you guys watching The Imposter at? I really wanna see it but its on neither Netflix or HBOGO.
12-12-2012 , 01:58 AM
There are a lot of quality big budget movies not made for kids. Hotdog trolling.

I saw "The Trotsky" yesteray. Jay Baruchel is good. 7/10.

As far as foreign movies, those used to be better in the past as well. As far independent movies, I dunno, I haven't really seen many independent movies, so you may be right.

NIMO; at least nothing compared to the quality of movies of years passed. Id struggle to name a handful movies from the past 10-15 years that can be considered 'great'. While you can pretty much point to any random 3-4 years stretch from a while ago that is more densely packed with amazing movies.

Craigslist Joe: A documentary which plays much like Into the Wild. A man spends 31 days living off nothing but craigslist and starts off with no money. He encounters some great people and a mixture of strange ones too. There are a few unexpected heartwarming moments. I recommend it.

Head Games: A documentary about sports related head injuries. It's alarming the amount of damage one concussion can do, let alone many. It's a tough watch but essential IMO.

Time clarifies quality.

A movie you watch from the 70s is much more likely to be a great movie than one that was made recently. This does not mean movies from the 70s are better than movies now, only that you aren't watching the bad movies from the 70s.

Google says it was released in April of this year but I thought it wasn't out for ages, especially over here.

There is a DVD copy on the internet, however.

I'm confused, but pretty keen to see it!
anyone seen this? may watch it tonight.

Yup. It's okay.

Watched The Big Chill which seems pretty overrated to me. Also Nobody's Fool which was good.

Curious to know what big budget movies from the past are better than big budget movies now? Are you talking like 10 commandments or titanic?

I liked it. I enjoy premises like this and multi-layered stories. The ending was kind of building up to a big "reveal" and it fell a little flat. I guess the message in all the interwoven stories is that life goes on filled with regret.

The Imposter

Interesting at first, then becomes kind of boring, then leads you on to think there is a twist there.
Spoiler:
Turns out to be nothing special, just a lunatic living in france with his wife and three kids(most disturbing fact about the whole story).
12-12-2012 , 08:39 PM
Fun enough to watch i guess, 6.5/10

saw Der Mörder Dimitri Karamasoff recently. A German early (filmed in 1931) talking movie based on Dostoevsky's "The Brother Karamazov". Unlike the novel, this movie focused only on the older brother and left out the younger one completely. It was co-directed by a Russian, so that might explain why this movie did such an excellent job in telling Dostoevsky's story. This movie managed to capture the characters very accurately, while greatly abridging and changing the story altogether. It had very nice visuals and played very lose with images that it showed, a lot of the times it was a bit abstract, but still managed to faithfully portray what Dostoevsky had to say. This movie suffers from very short run time, but still very good. B+
