Was on a plane so watched a movie.

The Circle - Really bad. Which is a shame as the topic matter has potential to actually make a good movie. But was terrible all around. No redeeming features and so many stupid unrealistic moments. 1/10

I saw Eraserhead when it came out. I was in law school, and a few people (not me) knew about the movie. A pretty big group met at the law school, abused intoxicants, and took cabs to the theater that was showing it. I went back to see it again a few days later because I thought I must have been hallucinating through the movie. Great flick, but I couldn't eat chicken for a while.

I say Oscar bait more for it being a sappy and sad period piece about a misunderstood man. But yea, some of the actors are certainly what you'd consider Oscar bait.

Eraserhead is what shines for me in technical prowess, frame composition, set design, etc. (not to say EMan doesn't). With 6 years to work on Ehead, and working largely on interior sets that he sometimes built entirely by himself, he seems to have made damn sure every last detail of every scene was exactly how he wanted it.

I like to imagine that Heist is a canonical sequel to Get Shorty.

Watched Million Dollar Baby for the first time since it came out. What a great movie.

Watched Wheelman on Netflix (Netflix original) earlier. Well worth the watch if you have Netflix.

I don't really think The Exorcist or The Shining are scary, though The Shining did scare me when I was a little kid.

I don't know what to say about why I like either movie, but it's basically just art that I like. I guess the "direction" would be it, but cinematography and editing I'm sure are big parts of the art. That and Max Von Sydow. He's pretty awesome no matter what he does. Sound design too.

Watched Minority Report tonight, and while I had seen it some fifteen years ago, I remembered almost none of it. I'm still trying to figure out why since I do remember where I saw it and why.

Thor: Ragnarok

Was not expecting much based on the trailer. Was very happily surprised.

This has a much different tone than any previous Marvel movie, and the stylistic approach to that tone is executed wonderfully.

There are a few story problems and Goldblum is about as annoying as I figured he would be, but that's the worst I can really say. I suppose the inclusion of Doctor Strange was excessive and unnecessary. That's about it. The trailers had me expecting garbage from Thompson's character but she turned out solid. Hiddleston has a much larger role than the trailers show and this is a good thing. Urban, Elba, and Blanchett all could have used a little more screen time.

The dialogue was appropriate for the approach, and I laughed more than a few times, which I rarely ever do with the non-RDJ usual Marvel stuff.

Waititi did a great job putting this one together.

re-re-re-re-watching one of my all-time favorites for Halloween, Nosferatu.



I know I've posted about this here before, but it's really such a great watch. Nearly 100 years old, something about the medium itself feels spooky and otherworldly, like cracking open a dusty old tome of lore. Director Murnau had a masterful understanding of what he could do with light and shadow with the technology he had, making every grainy shoot feel like a creepy Edward Gorey drawing. There's a shot of Count Orlock levitating up from the grave that weirds me out every time. An of course, it's free to watch online.

Which version did you watch?
Nosferatu has been released several times with differing scores.
I saw one a few years back that was done in a more modern electronic sound and it was amazingly good.

How do people keep track of what they've watched and/or read and/or played? Looking for a good site or method (spreadsheet or whatever) to start marking things. Ideally would include space to put dates, places, other details. Ratings aren't that important - if a rating is required that's kind of a dealbreaker. Does anyone do this?

Agree with most of this. Think it's probably one of the funniest ones I've watched.

Also I saw Life on the plane. There's only so much you can do with this type of story line and the limited real estate. It was okay. 5/10

I've seen all my fav films more times than I can ever count and I can't think of any reason why I would need/want to keep track of everytime I watch the fugitive.

Watched geostorm. Sweet Jesus what a terrible movie. Wasn't expecting much but still appalled that someone put this out.

War for the Planet of the Apes Good fun. GF hadn't seen the first two so we watched all three together. I just didn't care for the second one that much. I'd rate 1 = 3 > 2.

The Lobster Dafuq? Weird and methodical. I liked it.

Office Space Just never gets old. I laugh out loud every time I see it. So spot on if you've ever spent time in a cube farm for a large corporation.

Weird I thought the second was the best one.

I like the idea of having it all logged and especially knowing dates and places (I can often remember that stuff anyway, but it gets blurrier with time). I'm a nostalgic person in general so I love to look at something and say "omggg I saw that in August of 2015 right after I got the job offer" etc.

There are also plenty of movies that are on the borderline where I wouldn't want to see it again (at least not anytime soon) if I know I'd already seen it in 35mm.

I know someone who worked in this and it sounded like a massive cluster ****. Literally years in post production and THEN they recast one of the characters. Not to mention it would have been terrible anyways. There’s no topping Day After Tomorrow so why even bother.

I have a list on my phone where I write down movies I want to see. When I’ve watched them I mark down an X and a rating out of 10. Usually enough to jog my memory. I never reorder the list so it’s mostly chronological.

Letterboxd is what I use. I find it works well
