If the SARB017 is any indication that black strap will need to be replaced anyway. Don’t let strap be a major factor in choosing your watch. As has been posted there are hundreds of strap options.

Wow, I saw a used Seiko SARB065 on ebay, purportedly in excellent shape with normal strap wear. It sold for $390! Why would anyone pay $390 for a used watch that can be had new for $486?

To save $100 dollars?

Gaddy's head will explode when he finds out that sometimes people pay more than MSRP for watches.

This would be so perfect without the white date wheel, and without all the text on the face.

Looking for a watch with a khaki strap and clean white face for around 200-500 USD.
Something like this, any ideas?

Seriously hot watch, and I normally hate rolexes. Price?

Blah for that price there's still a bunch of other pieces I'd rather have. Figured it would be about 7-9k and then it would be in contention.

A basic Submariner is over $8,000.

I think the Deepsea sucks because all they did was take the SD and add more metal to it. A watch that big and it has the exact same dial as a Sub? zzz, take away that 4" rehaut and give me a larger dial, please.

Also, have you worn one? Least comfortable watch I've ever worn. Again, seemed like a zero-effort part on Rolex, they should have made the bracelet significantly wider. It feels like a rock tied to your wrist with a piece of twine; and that was only after five minutes of wear.

Seadweller infinitely better than the DSSD

Knowledgeable watch people,

I want to buy my dad a watch. He likes classic/vintage Omegas, but presumably would be cool with anything that is similar in style to them.

He has a big wrist, though this does not necessarily require a large watch, and is approaching 60. He likes classic, plain/elegant face, no numbers style watches. Also has a predisposition toward gold rimmed, although it's not a requirement. Something that would look good on a leather strap.

Price range $5k is the top end. I have no issue with used in principle.

Thoughts?

So why don't you get him a vintage Omega?

Said nice Incursore to a guy rocking a Cali dial today, was kinda funny he did a double take for a second that I knew what it was then got all stoked.

Always thought they looked huge in wristshots but looked totally reasonable IRL.

I think what the guy is saying, is that, if that is what he likes, there is your purchase? Why look anywhere else?

I think a Sub wouldn't work on a strap. Vintage Omega would be the thing.

the thing about vintage omegas is that there are tons and tons and tons of frankens and redials and junk out there. You need to know what you're doing.

like if you go on ebay right now and type in vintage seamaster you'll get like 5000 results and 4900 of them will be frankens or redials

With a budget of $5k, he should be able to afford some advice and authentication from a reputable seller, no?
