Went into Tourneau in Vegas today. Saw a few really nice watches. Really liked http://www.authenticwatches.com/jaeg...l#.UbKyOPbTXk4

Mentioned I might want to trade in my current watch and asked about discounts from the sticker price. Was told I would get screwed on a trade in (expected) and that they couldn't discount anything on Rolex, JLC, IWC and a few others which was pretty unexpected. I kept saying I'm sure you can do something and mentioned that I knew I could get a fairly large discount elsewhere and she was pretty firm. Also she seemingly knew very little about watches and tried to sell me on a Cartier as soon as I walked in.

I think a really funny experiment would be to tell every salesperson you want X watch and will buy it from whoever can give you the lowest price. I imagine there would be some competition for easy commission.

Also went across the hall to a store that sells AP's. The Royal Oak is just amazing. Weight/fit/look just everything makes me want to splurge big and get one.

B&R have an interesting look but I really think they're significantly overpriced for what you get. I'm sure someone posted a few alternatives a couple of pages back which were much better value.

I would never buy a B&R because I think they're not worth anything like what they cost but they do look very distinctive and I understand they are well made so I guess it comes down to how much you personally like it.

Have a bad experience to share on Theorema watch. Got it for less than a month and it spoil. Send it to Germany with the given shipping address for warranty repair and the company owner claim that he did not receive. Provided the tracking number and it show that it was delivered on 22 May and the owner deny receiving the item. The shipping address and the address shown from their official site is different. You judge it yourself if is it worth buying or risking yourself to send the watch for warranty repair.

I had the same experience with Tourneau, totally unwilling to discount, so I bought it from a store that was.

Looking for something very casual that'll go with typical beachwear, easy to read, rugged, and something that'll look good with wear (and survives salt water). So basically a diver.

I think the style above is pretty good, although I'd like something less expensive, preferably around $50-$150. Also a nice rubber/fabric band might be better since I'll have to wear it over a suit sometimes.

You can pick up the 1st gen monster for around $120 used, they pop up pretty frequently. The bracelet has a wetsuit extension and the lugs are drilled so swapping out for a rubber band or nato is pretty easy (though the monster only has 20mm lugs and looks kinda weird on a nato/zulu IMO).

It's going to be hard to find a real ISO-certified automatic diver for less than that. If you don't mind quartz your options would be a lot wider.

I dig Vostok Amphibians that are mechanical, tough-as-nails divers. Under 100 USD.

The designs are an acquired taste.

+1. Just make sure you pick up a NATO or something to replace the terrible stock bracelet.

What do you think of one of these? I'd get a wetsuit-adjustable bracelet to replace the stock.

If none of those are good, then I think I'll go with the older Seiko Orange Monster model:

I'm eyeing that Classic myself.

I've bought from Meranom and ebay seller Zenitar who tends to ship more quickly as he lives in Moscow.

Great article on the Amphibian design.

Nice

I was going with the classic also, but the scuba dude really grew on me.

Got two straps to try: black silicone and grey nato. eBay was estimating 4+ weeks for shipping from Russia. Meranom reviews said it's about 4 weeks also. I ended up paying a bit more and went with a German seller because the shipping is 1-2 weeks.

Really nice write up on dive watch design. I'd never thought much about it, but the discussion of sheer force on the rubber seal is very interesting. His conclusion is also well stated that the "Russian" affiliation probably keeps it from being a more broadly popular choice, but it is unquestionably more elegant/efficient solution to the problem.

Vostok is working on marketing globally but they have a tough time financially. They can't even keep up with movements to supply Vostok Europe which is using Seiko movements now.

Does anyone have experience purchasing a piece from tourbillon?
Was walking through Crystals and saw some nice pieces.
Are they willing to negotiate like Torneau?

I just got a 1968 Omega Speedmaster. I already have a Submariner which I wear on its steel bracelet so I am looking to put a leather band on the speedmaster. Any recommendation on leather bands? I have a small wrist so the band cant be too long.

dont wear either tag, looking to trade or sell the tag link eventually. The blue tag on the left was my first nice watch and will go to my son if I ever breed.
