Mel Brooks is still alive. Stated just so Dom doesn't trip up and fall on his face again.

And Mel Brooks came up with/invented the shoe phone. To set the record straight*.

*Both Mel Brooks and Buck Henry worked on/wrote for Get Smart.

Absolutely! And who of us of a certain age can ever forget "Kookie, Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb."

"Younger" people probably remember him more for his role as Vince Fontaine in Grease.

Sadly,

The amazing Rush drummer Neil Peart dead at 67.

Rolling Stone has him at #4 GOAT.

Stunned. For many years, I pretty much only listened to Rush (yeah I was one of those guys) before gradually broadening my music interests but never lost my appreciation for their amazing musicianship.

RIP to the GOAT.

#4? That's 3 spots too low.

Certainly couldn't ever put him above John Bonham or Keith Moon.

What are the metrics elite drummers are judged by?

Evidently dying young in a popular band.

Nice knock.

If you listened to his stuff and saw him live you would understand why he is in the top 5. His drum kit is probably #1. He also wrote most of the Rush's lyrics.

Uh i did. Great songwriter, but its really hard to quantify drummers.

It really is.

But Bonham and Moon get stuck at the top of the list primarily due to dying while in a popular band at the time.

They were good, but im in the Buddy Rich and Tommy Lee camps.

Why Tommy Lee?

Cause he's done as much drugs as Bonham and Moon and still can play drums.

My thought was, how could these old ****s be better than some of today's lightning fast metal drummers? Then I watched a video of Rich (never heard of him before) doing a solo on Carson at 60 something years old.

Yeah, I'm sure that old fella could drum for any heavy band today.

RIP Peart. He was good! For the old guys Rich was always considered the best but I liked Gene Krupa better. For Rock drummers gimme Ginger Baker.

Buddy has always been number 1 for a lot of people. He just doesn't fit in the rock'n'roll genre.

Rolling Stone top 5:

1) John Bonham - September 25, 1980 (aged 32)
2) Keith Moon - September 7, 1978 (aged 32)
3) Ginger Baker - October, 2019 (aged 80)
4) Neil Peart - January 7, 2020 (aged 67)
5) Hal Blaine - March 11, 2019 (aged 90)

They're all gone now. Sad.

They have Buddy Rich at #11.

Since my high school days I had more Rush CDs in my collection than any other single band. RIP Neil Peart

Rich, Belson and Kruppa in that order. Technique, musicality and speed.

Any rock drummer is an Edsel compared to these archetypes.

Peart was a pusher. He pushed the drum sticks. He was heavy handed. Musically speaking he was horrid. His ideas and phrasing were lumbering. His bass drumming was worse.

He is not in the same equation as a Buddy Rich.

not sure if you want studio versions where it stands out or not but here's a live version of Spirit of Radio with a great introduction where the drumming stands out.

I love how Geddy and Neil look like band members and Alex Lifeson just looks like some guy they pulled from the crowd.

My father always said that Neil Peart was one of the best technical drummers. He could play the same thing again and again without a single beat sounding different.

RIP Neil. Too young.
