just when i think i can recognize the Pope he somehow transmogrifies into what appears to be somebody completely different. still haven't figured that one out.
The clothes make the man as Mark Twain supposedly said. The Silly Pope is easily recognizable by the silly hat, the silly robes, the silly footwear and the general silliness of his other accoutrements. The super, supercilious smirk is also a dead giveaway.
Another baseball great claimed by 2020. He should be a hall of famer! I never saw anyone hit the ball harder than he did. I remember him most from those couple of great years he had with my White Sox including an MVP season. Was also Rookie of the Year with the Phillies. Played for lots of teams and was often considered a "problem". But he was hugely embraced in Chicago during his time with the Sox. He had his own TV show on Sunday afternoons although he was rarely on it. Harry Carey (or Bob Uecker when the Brewers were in town) would host and it was hilarious.
Nancy Faust, longtime White Sox organist plays the walk up music she chose for Allen. Of course the song Superstar. When he came up you wanted to watch.
Allen not being in the HOF is a crime. He may have been associated with problems, but they were never *his* problems. But writers didn't see it that way back then. What a player.
