Wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

[QUOTE=lilrascal;48937633]Here's a video of one of the songs in my Christmas Light Display. Not the greatest of quality, but it gives a better idea of the animation aspect of the display.

That's great! Wow, how many channels is that? I lost count after seeing the 48 sets of lights around the tree...

I asked my uber driver if he's taking time off for the holidays and he said, in an accent I'm not aware of, "hell no, because this is the united states of america and I'm here to work hard" and I got all patriotic for a bit

Was he wearing this:

Quote:
I wasn't ready for this shirt.

I bought it for a 4th of July party, thinking it would be a fun gag shirt. Little did I know. I pulled it out of the box and immediately sank to my knees and wept tears of pure joy, and by "pure joy" I mean "pure Jack Daniel's". I strapped it on and my max bench press increased by a 100lbs. I wiped the whiskey from my face, looked in the mirror, and in my reflection I saw him behind me.

George Washington. Looking stern and powerful. He nodded once, an affirmation. I knew what I had to do.

I flung myself from the bathroom window and this shirt literally turned me into a bald eagle, I flew over Iraq and pooped tomahawk missiles on ISIS positions, then I flew back home and turned into a 1967 Pontiac GTO and drove all night until I arrived at Pussytown.

My boys would love it
No, they like it. As it gets closer to Thanksgiving people from throughout the neighborhood stop me and ask when the display is going up.

A few days ago we had some carolers come by to thank us for the display since it's become part of their family tradition to come and see. That was really special and it made the day for me and my wife.

I have 144 channels total. The tree is 18 channels, 16 going down (3/channel), 1 for the top and 1 for the strobes.

Oh, and where is the rats nest of extension cords? Everything looks super clean...

They're on the ground going to the controllers in multiple locations, so they're spread out a little. The controllers are in the "Christmas Present Boxes" next to each tree and behind the fence. You can see the "Box" in the Nativity Scene pic.

I have over a mile of extension cords. I used to keep track, but I don't anymore.

Okay, how do you do those arches? The motion looks very smooth!

They're six channels each, and the lights are on sections of PVC slid over one big piece of PVC. The intensity of the lights are brought ramped up and down to make it look smoother.

Here's a pic of the arches in daylight.

Here's the controllers on the "Box":

and some of the cords coming out of the box going to the different display elements:

For each sequence, I typically use 1/10 second timing to sync it up with the music. The programming of each sequence is what takes the most time, but there are a lot of people sharing their sequences so I have to adjust it for my display and don't have to figure out the musical beats, which would be a real struggle for me.

Very cool LR

lilrascal, how well does the display tolerate rain?
12-23-2015 , 04:10 AM
What does it cost to run?
12-23-2015 , 04:19 AM
Lilrascal! Very nice! it feels if you took a better quality audio with the visual you created which is awesome..would vastly improve the video overall which was very cool but the sound quality didn't do your show justice.

Really enjoyed the sync of the song/lights.

I can't begin to imagine the work/efforts put into setting that up.

Maybe take a tripoded/stable video and add the sound track after? I could help with that if you sent me a stable video.

Sounds even better.

What are the drawbacks?
