I think we're getting caught up in an irrelevant problem here

The cops should have just let her go

She was clearly jaywalking cause she was on her way to see the leprechaun

Hello. I am a psychotic crazy ass woman right up in your face, quite able to start getting violent with you (which will hurt) and am currently of little to no sanity, so the violence becomes likely to happen

Is stopping me a good idea? Stopping me quickly a better one?

Remember, I'm a psychotic crazy ass woman. Talking to me isn't gonna help.

So basically you can't suggest a good alternative? If you can't suggest a better course of action, basically what you are doing is getting angry with a rock for hitting the ground when its dropped off a building.

No, the fact that you somehow believe there is no other possible course of action means I have basically excluded you from the discussion as I don't want to waste my time.

I once went to IHOP at like 3 in the morning with a bunch of friends. It was half off night, so there were a few other big parties there. We were put next to a table with another group that was being kind of loud and roudy. After we were there for about 20 mins, two of them started to get into a pretty loud verbal altercation. The manager called the cops, and one cop showed up and tried to calm the two that were specifically angry. They didn't stop, so he told one of them to come with him. She kept saying "yeah, I am, I just want to say one thing" and would keep yelling at the other girl she was angry with. At this point she had obviously ruined everyone's meal and finally the cop got tired of telling her to come with him, and so tried to pull her out of the booth by her arm. Immediately she flipped out and started struggling and hitting him and generally causing a scene. Another cop showed up and other members of the group tried to start attacking the cop to get her away. Tables started getting upturned and food/plates thrown and both cops broke out pepper spray and started hitting people with it. Everyone in the restaurant started trying to get out but it was just two cops trying to control like 8 people and it was really rough. The pepper spray was everywhere and everyone was coughing, eyes watering, face swelling, etc. It was miserable. I wish 20 cops had shown up and just started beating all 8 of them with night sticks. I say this cop was COMPLETELY justified in punching her.

Just admit it. You can't think of anything else he could have done that would have been both safe, and enforced the law. Both women should have been arrested. The officers safety was in question, and thus, by an extension, the public's.

lol.

If you gave me the situation before seeing that video trying to punch them out wouldn't even come to my mind. You can easily kill or seriously injure people in fistfights, especially when you are way stronger than your opponents. That's not my goal as an officer.

So you agree with me? There was nothing else he could have done?

Yep, you got it. More policemen should do it too, it's so obvious. I don't think they kill or maim or seriously injure enough people right now.
06-16-2010 , 09:11 PM
pbal do you think it's acceptable for police officers to use force that may, in some cases, be a little more than necessary if the alternative is using not enough force that may, in turn, lead to the officers themselves being harmed?
06-16-2010 , 09:12 PM
I only say this because you've failed to come up with a single answer of an "acceptable use of force"

and before you say "I don't know one, I'm not a cop", maybe you should realize that, yes, you aren't a cop- and therefore you can't sit on the sideline and objectively judge an obviously subjective situation

So because we aren't police officers we can't question their actions. That's good to know.

So you're saying that you just don't know of any possible way for him to do what he did, in between "nothing" and "punching his attacker"

You obviously can

But you're saying it's bad in an absolute sense without providing any real reasoning other than "it's awful, she could have died"
