I wondered how people here would describe others here both assuming they were acting in good faith and assuming they weren't.

Rhetorical hooks, such as appeals to nationalism, are not fact-claims and thus have no truth-value and thus cannot be "lying".

They also expanded unemployment assistance, and the pre-existing social support is still there.

I think the number of people posting information they know to be false and arguments they know/realize are invalid is about 0, if that's what you mean by "good faith".

Luckbox I'm genuinely curious how you answer this set of questions.

This seems debatable.

Ok. I'll need a couple hours though as I hate normative questions

Facebook seems beyond saving for not really related reasons.

Twitter is a more interesting one.

I wonder if we ever get Amazon banning people from buying stuff. That could be quite a stick some day.

"beyond saving" implies there was ever something to save?

Facebook was kinda cool when it was just university people?!?

Now it's just ads and stealing data. Maybe it always was the second.

They could foreseeably go the member-only route, like Costco.

You should not make posts like this.

I know this meant Amazon but I was intrigued by thinking it meant Twitter.

The honest answer is that I wish people used facebook less. Beyond that some of those questions are tough.
Should T-Mobil be required to give Trump cell phone service? Should it be nationalized??? Probably yes and no.
The issue of social media (or just media) in general and its influence on society is obviously a lot tougher. Certainly it's very problematic. When you combine that with tech giants that are all in bed with the CIA and we'll end up with the dystopian nightmare we're getting (not today though beautiful day here).
Nationalization of tech companies isn't the answer though-- would anything even change? Probably revolution.

nationalization only works if its a dictatorship of the proletariat (as opposed to a dictatorship of the bourgeoisie which it is now)

Since you're pretty well read on the subject is there anyone you'd recommend who's done a deep dive into who the proletariat is in the 21st century? I'm curious about that particular aspect of how people who spend a lot of time thinking about this stuff reconcile the modern world with Uncle Karl's framework.

I kind of liked it when it was just a way to get in touch with people I hadn't seen in ages

just a wild guess that the existence of the internet doesn't change that the class divide is whether you're an employer or employee

I think the world has changed enough that you have many persons who fall into both categories. And I personally wouldn't consider a lot of highly compensated white collar employee workers as members of the proletariat. If I'm a "employer" running a very modest service business (i.e. no capital), am I a member of the bourgeoisie even if I make very little money?

I don't spend my days thinking about such things which is why I'd like to see what someone who does thinks.
