What are the implications for your salary cap if you don't sign him to a rookie contract during the season?
Also, are rookie contracts 3 years @ $1 per year or 3 years @ $3 per year?
Thanks.
No, you don't have to sign a player who gets called up. You can choose to, if you think he can contribute. However, once you give him a contract, you are stuck with it, if he's sent down or doesn't perform.
At the end of the season that he loses rookie eligibility, you have to decide whether to sign him to a rookie contract or release him.
If you don't sign a player, he earns no salary, and cannot be used - if you want him to play, you have to sign him.
Rookie contracts are 3 years at $3/year.
