So today in an online ACBL tourney I had

KQJxxx
Ax
AQx
Qx

opposite partners

Ax
KQJxx
KJx
AKx

First time I have ever had, and may ever have 39 HCPs together with partner. Reaching a trivial 7NT was still worth 80%...

If south opens it is over quick. 2NT-7NT

Was watching one of Pete Hollands' videos the other day, maybe interesting question came up - how do you respond to partner's 1NT if we're not strong enough for game but 5-5 in the majors?

Traditionally you bid 2c Stayman and pass the answer. If partner bids 2D you bid 2H (promises a weak hand) and partner must show preference

Check out Dirty Tricks. Documentary centering around Lotan Fisher. A certain poster in this thread has a brief appearance.

Yes, I tried to find it online but I can't find it. Only the promo and the references to the online festival site where it was shown, but I can't watch it there anymore.
I did find the Sheriff of Bridge, and that was well done.

Do you know where to find Dirty Tricks?

I pass. The less I know about Lotan Fisher, the happier I am

It's on Showtime here in the US. Not sure about elsewhere.

So a club swiss. You are playing in the best team in the field. But round 1 everything goes bad. Round 2 get it back to even even after partner makes a bad bid. Round 3 you find yourself against your parents (love them but they aren't good)

You have

xxx
QJT9
xx
Kxxx

Parents arrive in 4H even after your partner throws in a 2D overcall. Partner isn't a joker in this situation.

Do you double your mom?

Ya of course I do.

Can't be -EV in any way. If I go -990 they will be delighted. If I go plus 500 I have better chance at winning the Swiss.

Oh I did and I was rooting for -990..

...went for +1100...

Mom did take it gracefully, but better believe I was getting hell for it the rest of the day.

Also that is a good defensive problem there

If you don't think that is damning here I agree. But here is their results of their last month of 18 board ACBL tourneys

5/92
1/186
1/66
2/134
4/82
2/216
5/164
(we finally get a "regression")
25/390
7/88
9/272
13/324
5/322
30/320
4/64
4/92
13/136

Holy Hell

Yes I messaged Nicholas Hammond and he has this pair as no question blatantly cheating.
I just sent out my monthly recorder report on this pair. This time for this...

and yet they are still allowed to play in ACBL tournies...sigh...

Hahaha. Think about all the ways it could win. What if pard has 10x or stiff 10!

So I'm officially playing LM pairs during the summer nationals, and trying to plan the rest of it. Anyone have any interest in playing something like the Wehrner pairs, and/or setting up some regular games on BBO?

Hand from today that has been bothering me. So against one of the top pairs at the club. I double their 3S. In the endgame all that matters is how I defend and don't pay attention to dad's discards. Dad revokes on a meaningless trick. Paying more attention to how I'm defending knowing his play doesn't matter I miss it.

Needless to say this guy calls the director at the end of the hand and it goes from -1 to making.

Look if I was playing with anyone except my dad who has Parkinsons and revokes at least once a session, fine. If it wasn't against one of the better players in the club fine. If it was a revoke that actually changed the course of play, of course fine. If it was anything but a club game, fine.

But everything being the opposite has had me pretty ****ing pissed, am I wrong?

Yes. You’re wrong by the rules and you shouldn’t get bent out of shape at people who follow them.

But mainly you’re wrong because the points just don’t matter. Take satisfaction that you defended well and that you’re getting to spend time with your dad who has Parkinson’s. Literally all that matters. Be more zen, you’ll live longer.
