You do get an automatic award for making day 3 (I have come in last on day 3 in the LM Pairs, thank you very much). Day 2, nah...

we got some red in the one sesh of the side game we played today, which according to josh reduces your clee-rating [(gold + plat)/red]

Then don't give session rewards for a great session.

I know I'm debating maybe the dumbest thing. I've already been to the point I don't really care about masterpoints for the longest time.

But it still feels dumb a 55%/35% gets some points for the 55%, and a 52%/52%/50%/42% gets nothing

I agree the debate over masterpoints is a trifle dumb. Awarding a good single session does give you incentive when you are out of the event to do well in the last session.

Hi all, have been just following this thread for years, not posting, but I really appreciate it.
I will be in Austin and my partner has cancelled, so I am available to play some. My level is comparable to Gabe (know him from long time ago).

(Remove the XXX to see the link. I still don't understand the hate of URL shorteners).

If you don't think that is damning here I agree. But here is their results of their last month of 18 board ACBL tourneys

5/92
1/186
1/66
2/134
4/82
2/216
5/164
(we finally get a "regression")
25/390
7/88
9/272
13/324
5/322
30/320
4/64
4/92
13/136

Holy Hell

Yes I messaged Nicholas Hammond and he has this pair as no question blatantly cheating.

So in the Soloway you pick up a seemingly boring Jxxxx xx xxxx JT, but after you pass initially, you find yourself choosing between raising partner voluntarily to small slam or grand slam in the next round. I bid 6, but 7 was right. Sounds crazy, right? Anyone can guess roughly what happened?

Jxxxx xx xxxx JT, they are vulnerable.

Righty opened 1C strong, I passed, lefty bid 1S, showing 5+ AKQ-points. Partner jumped to 5D and righty made a forcing pass. They were world champions recently.

Tactically interesting. My goal is to either (A) let them bid 6M when it is 7M, or (B) 7M when it is only 6M, or (C) ending in a wrong fit, or (D) leave us in 7D when it is 7M.
7D might get you B or C or D.
6D might get you A or B but less likely C or D.

6D failed because it was not the last guess. Lefty bid 7C and now I had to decide again. I passed and they were cold for 7C (and 7H).

LHO held:
x
QJ9xx
-
AQxxxxxx

and RHO:
AQ1085
AK85
J8
K9

I don't think you can pass. You have 4-card support and they haven't found a fit yet. I'd bid 6D.

When your save is going for less than their small slam, you can't afford to let them play anywhere. You might be about to win 17 for +100, but more likely you will be minus 800/1100 into their 1370, which still wins IMPs even when you could have been +100. The one caveat here is you were probably outclassed (they are WC) so taking the swingy route might be correct to try to get that 17 on your side.

I’d also bid 6d. You made them guess. Hands are not always this shapely. We are bringing next to nothing offensive to the table, our hand may as well be xxx xxx xxxx xxx.

LHO has 14 cards btw. assume partner was 2281?

Sometimes partner is Ax xx KQTxxxxx x though no? I guess p needs to dbl 7c then. My point is only partner knows we’re going for 1100 max.

Another thing I always consider is my partnership. If I'm not quite sure what the best thing to do is (pass, 6D, 7D) I think of the aftermath. If I misguess pass, partner will be rustled. If I misguess 6D/7D he will not be mad. It is very easy to defend bidding 6D to your team, much easier than it is to explain your thought process for passing.

"I bid 5D and you had 4-card trump support and you did not bid. Are you waiting for me to bid 5D into your 5-card?"
