This whole Harry Reid vs. the states dynamic is really hard to predict.

Will he back down to pressure from many states who want their own system?
Will he be able to convince smaller states that this is the best option for them?
Do Nevada and NJ have enough clout to get something in place in spite of other states?

If something does get done imminently (within 6 months) I wonder how much of the licensing and regulation done by Nevada as of now will "rollover" into the federal scheme. As we all know Nevada could have games up by the fall and if some federal bill were done in the next few months a lot that has already been done could just "copy/paste" into the federal bill. This wouldn't apply as much to licensing I'd imagine, but the regulations could be similar.

Dunno, I'm not super optimistic only because I know regulated poker is a 2013 thing (as far as playing), and 2012 just started, but so far it seems to me that we're in good shape.

Barton says he can get stuff past the house. Reid controls the senate. Considering online poker is now happening no matter what, a federal bill is much, much easier to sell. This will probably be PRed as a internet safety measure imo.

I don't think states are going to be able to do much if anything to stop a Kyl and Reid partnership on this. If Adelsons disapproval didn't stop Kyl, Kyl isn't stopping. When behemoths like those 2 get together on an issue, it's bound to get done.

I state things like facts because I trust my assessment, that said it's all speculation on my part.

Adelson's views seem to be less relevant after the DOJ ruling I'd imagine. He can't stop online gambling anymore than Kyl can. Hopefully the man will finally let it go.

It's getting attached to PIPA. They will be able to add the mechanisms that the DoJ would need to go after illegal sites if PIPA is the main bill. Both are in the same field and deal with illegal non-US sites.

doesn't PIPA have to deal with copyright infringement? how does PIPA help DoJ go after illegal poker sites?

Tbh, I don't know the specifics, but I believe PIPA gives the DoJ the right to shut down websites anywhere in the world that violate copyright laws(could just be in SOPA). All they would have to do is add "and illegal gambling websites".

The main thing is that they both deal with the internet. They are also both going to deal with blocking, shutting down, and/or stopping the flow of money to non-US websites. The enforcement agreed upon for SOPA/PIPA will most likely be similar or the same for an IPoker bill.

I'd have to think any piracy related bill has a very long road ahead of it still given the way in which SOPA got shut down by such widespread disapproval.

True, but it's not going away.

Check out the lc/nc thread. I wasn't following anyone on my new twitter account, so I click on your list to add some people to follow. What I found was pretty funny, to me atleast.

I'm not too surprised at Reid's statement, I thought it was a given? Guess it's exciting to have confirmation though.

Really hope this doesn't get attached to PIPA, PIPA/SOPA are the nut worst.

Fact or speculation? Source?

Odds of it getting passed? (btw hate to support a bill like SOPA)

PIPA is a pretty terrible bill, I really hope it doesn't become the vehicle for internet poker.

Speculation

SOPA is dead, but PIPA is still set to be voted on next week. The votes are probably there, but there are a lot of people saying to slow down. It will probably get pushed back and watered down a bit before it passes.
