gotta say this whole thing is pretty disappointing. strat forums here have been dead for years, hardly anybody who posts on the site actually plays poker for a living anymore, and pol forum is one of the only places on the site where substantive and robust debate still occurs. one of the only subs you can actually still come to and learn something. and all the site admins/owners want to do is troll the users and stifle the discussion over petty grievances.

Oh, it’s worse than that. He announced the ultimatum in a thread neither of us were subscribed to, and never reported the post or pm’d us, either of which would have actually triggered our email. He did it at like 11:10 PM EST on a holiday weekend. He was criticzed by maybe 4 posters and nuked the forum. That’s about the size of it.

SHS post was bad and warranted a temp at least imo. That said completely deleting a high traffic forum to own the libs is top level derp. Not sure a brand new forum elsewhere will quite work unfortunately, network effects are pretty powerful.

I think I posted about this before but the bolded is very true in my experience and it's a real concern. I used to post on Vault Network which was officially a gaming site in the way this one is a poker site, but it had a ton of OT offshoots and got pretty big because of it. Then IGN bought out Vault and rather than just leaving the VN boards in place as a subforum, IGN starting merging and in some cases closing certain OT forums and it fractured the community. A few mods tried to start their own things and took chunks of the user base with them, but none were really successful and it mostly served merely to further fracture the community. Always hope for the best but I feel like that is what's about to happen here as well.

I read politics occasionally and I myself would not have nuked it. It was of course a leftist circle-jerk, but worthwhile to read all the same.

Guys, I set up a temporary free forum so that we can go talk about that and find a new place to call home. I think it makes sense to make some decisions about what we want, what we want to call it, etc and those should be group decisions or at least start with a group discussion.

We may suck for your enjoyment of the forum, or for your job, or for the business of TwoPlusTwo... But people obsessed with politics, specifically those in this forum, are obsessed with trying to fight some of the wrongs in the world, make the world a better place, etc... Whether you agree or disagree with their views on how to do that, those qualities most certainly do not make those people suck. They make them good people. While you have the privilege to ignore those issues (for a day, a weekend, a month, forever) and not have it impact your life, a lot of people live a daily reality of being disadvantaged economically/socially in any number of ways in which they can't ignore. Caring a great deal about their plight does not make one suck, it makes one awesome.

It was important to me to express that, but I don't really want to get into an argument about this, so feel free to respond with "You suck, go away," and I won't argue the topic any further.

If I ran this forum and had moderators giving hundreds of their free time managing a subforum for me, I would at least consult them first before nuking the whole damn thing.
