I think I read part of another article from there, and it was just as overly wordy without getting to a point before I ran out of patience.

Howard, I will give another one of his articles a try if I can find one on a topic I don't have strong feelings about. In the meantime, have you read this? I think it gets across a similar point about calling people racist in a much more reader-friendly style.

I'll see if I can find one and recommend it. I do read Vox from time to time but I had not seen that piece. I don't like some of the assumptions in the intro but I absolutely agree with the main point.

@greg: I don't know if you agree or not but I try to find common ground with debate opponents and constrain the terms when I can. It's not that I'm afraid of the other issues, but rather that it is too hard to find common ground on them and they are thus not productive.

I read his piece on MDMA, ketamine and psych meds, which was interesting but that a much smaller scope and pretty straightforward. I thought I'd give this one a try.

I do not enjoy debating people, nor do I enjoy discussing politics, and the combination of the two is something I try to avoid. Arguing with people in NVG is often entertaining, though, because of the mind-blowing stupidity of some of the posts there, and it's not so much a debate as a mockery.

I quite enjoy a rousing political debate with friends over dinner. It can be an occasion for great good humor and fun, so long as nobody gets dogmatic or emotional.

You're right that NVG debates are a beast of a different character.

Why was nothing done about this?

This is a good 20% of what the Politics forum is. Back in the libertarian heyday it was like 60-70%.

Well, you can ask Tom his excuse, but I was out having fun in San Francisco on a lovely Saturday afternoon, so I must have just dismissed the email notification without really looking at it and then forgotten about it.

does lend credence to my suggestion that the forum needs more mod staff

p7 has at most 1/3rd the posters of p main, but also 50% more mods!

This. It still amazes me that that shiz just up and (almost) completely disappeared here.

i'm sure they all found their way to alt-right message boards or whatever, where they could safely debate how the civil war was wrong to their hearts' content

But what if they don't believe his agenda is racist?
06-27-2017 , 01:42 AM
then they either don't know what racism is, don't know what his agenda is, or both
06-27-2017 , 01:55 AM
I know what racism is and I know what his agenda is, but I don't believe his agenda is racist.

Thanks, Bryce, we're well. And definitely non-murderous! Hope you're the same.

So broad brush attacks on Trump supporters OK, because his agenda might be perceived as racist, but broad brush attacks on Muslims not OK, even though their beliefs and practices are (for example) generally misogynist?

You guys are amazing.

What do you think racism is, and what do you think his agenda is?

His rhetoric was racist. It doesn't matter what you feel about it. Calling the Muslim religion misogynist seems fine, calling any particular Muslim misogynist not so much. All Muslims are not any one thing but Muslim. All Trump supporters supported Trump, who got elected running a racist campaign.

The difference is that all supporters of a political party mostly agree with the policies of that party while not all members of a religion support the policies of certain misogynistic countries where that religion is the majority.

Like it makes sense to say that all Nazis hate Jews. But that doesn't make it ok to say for example that all Hindus are criminals.

You don't think that there were any Trump voters in the 'anyone but Hillary camp'?
