I dont like the stigma it brings with it. When you tell someone you play poker who is ignorant, they associate it with gambling. And therefore you become less in their eyes and it might hurt your connections etc with that person. So i only tell ppl i have known for a while about my hobby. I'm actually finding a part time job so that i have something to say when i get asked what i do apart from studying. Covering my bases! I wish i had done this from the start, but i was not a thinking player in the real world for a while, (fish in real life )

Yeah, now I just say "I'm an equity analyst for the casino industry."
If they ask what that means, I hesitate and say, "I'm not sure how much more I should say." Then they leave me alone and they think I'm kind of cool because I probably signed some NDA.

Demonstrating that you're open to a gamble (in a live poker game) is always good. When you can get this for free, you should always take it

After playing poker with my friends for a couple of weeks ($2-5 tournaments) they saw how good I really was. Now I am bombarded everyday with SS of "bad beats" and "how should I have played this hand?" from Zynga poker. I literally just got 10 texts of bad beats that involve TPTK being beaten by turned two pairs, flushes by full houses, sets by straights, etc.

Well, at least I have friends.

I have a guy at work always telling me how he loses thousands playing slot machines at the casino. He knows I play poker and win consistently and I volunteered to teach him but he just prefers slot machines because he believes he'll lose more playing cards.

months later he's down like 10 grands. while I'm up 10 grands. and I reopened my offer to teach him poker. he still says he thinks he'll lose more playing poker because he thinks you can easily "lose everything in one hand" as oppose to slot machines where you lose 10 grands over a long period, which is more fun for him.

If he doesn't have the sense to stop playing ****ing slot machines, he'd probably be a huge fish and lose big at poker no matter what you taught him. Just let him be.

Maybe he hates people. I'm a misanthrope myself, and the social part of poker is like my least favorite part.

Girl: So what do you work?
Me: I play poker for a living. It's kinda meh but the money is good.
Girl: So how much do you make per month?
Me: It depends but it's more than enough.
Girl: So you are a gambler?
Me: So you are a hooker?

*get slaped*

If he enjoys it, he should play them. If it's causing him financial trouble he shouldn't.

Need more dudes like you, so tired of girls thinking it's ok to be blatantly rude/ignorant yet surprised when you do it back.

Keep it up bro.

Someone being rude to you doesn't mean you get to be rude back. If someone asks me how much I make I ask them how much they make just to be clear what they're asking. Mostly they don't realise they're being rude and you can point it out to them without being rude back.

If people are being blatantly ****ing ignorant I'll say whatever I'm thinking. **** them, maybe next time they'll learn to think before opening their mouths.
