if you want to improve your cashgame play, get a CR membership and grind some videos. You also have the money to afford a solid cash game coach that could easily improve your game fast. You could easily afford at least 5-10 hrs (your choice) and probably could be able to beat the 1/2, 2/4 limits. gl

why does everyone assume that OP wants to put a BR online? op clearly stated that he plays live mostly, why would he go from Nice Clothe stakes (NL500) to Mcdonald stakes (NL25)??

If you want to play online, i'd deposit like 2k or so and play nl50. I don't really see the point of playing 25nl if you have played some nl500 live and i'm pretty sure there isn't any difference between nl25 and nl50 anyways (maybe i ran hot when i played nl50 but i honestly don't remember any difference at all on stars).

If you do good move up to nl100, but if you haven't played online you are going to have to learn to multitable and maybe learn how to play (if what i've heard about low stakes casino games iscorrect and you haven't played that much). If you don't have that much experience (incredibly hard to tell how much you have played from OP) then you could blow a huge wack of money if you try to start at nl200 etc.

Anyways, such is the nature of online poker and the amount of hands/hr you can play that you could probably make as much money at nl50 as live 1/2 and even 2/5 anyways.

I'd use the money to give you a little kickstart (so you don't have to grind micro games from scratch) but after your initial deposit i'd focus on your "poker roll" coming from your poker winings, not your grandmother.

35k really isn't that much so whatever you do be careful and take it slow.

When i started poker, i had >50k in liquid assets but i started from a free $15 and worked it up so i could make sure my skill:bankroll ratio was never a problem (in hindsight, starting from $15 was kinda silly but when you don't know jack about poker it probably isn't a bad idea).

35k is a 10% down payment on a decent house in most places, maybe not DC though. If he wants to buy a place it would be a reasonable thing to use it for, not as a pure investment but as a place to live.

And lol @ saving up a cash game bankroll. Go play NL10 and work your way up.

Not surprised you don't have a GF, you sound like a piece of ****.
LOL this statement is outrageous, yeah keep mourning over your grandmother for 6 months straight, 80% of the bbv readers can't even read properly.

OP: i wouldn't start playing higher than 0,5/1, deposit $7k or so, seeing as how u're saying u're not rly familiar with how online poker plays, and then just build your way up. save/invest the rest or whatever.

i'm not reading this thread, but, if you take 25k and make it a poker bankroll and all you've done previously is cash in a few small tournaments you'll likely find yourself very disappointed. do something substantial with the inhertience. maybe give yourself 5k to try to grind SSNL, but you won't jump into games with a 25k roll and win

He need about 10k around Portland, OR -- buy you a 200k house easy, given income qualifications and whatnot. There are still FHA loans out there for 3%, and conventional for 95 LTV with those kind of reserves.

You would probably do best OP if you put all of it except $100 in a CD and then played with that.

I am not kidding, but of course that's just my new philosophy of poker.

Get good at poker first. I started off with $10 as a 16 year old..now I'm 21 with a 6 figure roll.

Buy all the books, spend hours on 2+2 and get good at poker. If you need grandma's money to "go pro" then you really won't have what it takes to cut it. I wouldn't subscribe to a training site yet..I think books will give you a better return on investment right now as you seem a bit n00bish (no offense).
