Yea there still aren't actual classes in javascript afaik. So objects don't get their properties from a class (language construct) but from normal objects via some lookup mechanism done by the interpreter. The class syntax is just a shortcut for setting up the prototypes and constructor function manually.

You'll probably only notice if you change a prototypes properties, in which case everything that inherits from it will also change unless overwritten.

He just means under the hood when you write ES6 classes it will get unrolled to the prototype style way of defining objects in ES5 JS.

By the way, modern build tools will let you write ES6 JS today because they can flawlessly compile down into ES5. The latest project I'm working on now is using ES6.

It's awesome because of so many things. Here's a few things that I can't live without now:

- Proper classes
- The ability to export/import modules
- Much superior string concatination
- Default function argument values
- Native support for promises
- Fat arrow goodness

That's been known for a long time.

I have a feeling companies seeing any decline in in'tl sales are just blaming it on that.

I don't see why you'd trust the vast majority of other countries to be better than the US* - and I'm sure in some cases the non-US alternatives to the big guys won't be as good at security and end up leaving people more vulnerable to worse people.

That being said, money talks. So voting with your business is probably the best (although not necessarily effective) way of getting things changed.

* Not a compliment for the US. Just a general distrust of all countries.

won't lie, just read the title of the article and thought it'd be a light-hearted jab at iosys

mac users: just got a mbp with 256gb hd. When I go to About This Mac and then Storage, it says I have 1.3gb of music and half a gig of movies. I have not added any music or movies to my knowledge, nor connected my iPhone to it as I have no clue how to change ownership from iTunes on my PC to the mac.

Spotlight searching for *.m4a and *.mp3 doesn't turn up anything local, so I'm wondering how I figure out where this storage is being used.

Just a wild ass guess, but it could be OS music/movies. Things like the welcome tutorial (or whatever the hell thats called) and other random crap like that.

okay, and how do i remove it/reclaim the space? if that's even possible. I tried pulling up itunes and scanning for music but nothing happens. So either itunes doesn't think there's music on this thing, or i don't know how to use itunes, which is pretty likely. :*(

If my wild ass guess is right, which it probably isn't, there's probably no way to remove the files.

it's more that it's there and i don't know how to change/fix it, ya know?

like, i would love to remove the spotlight icon from the menu bar, but everything I read about it says you can remove it, but it also turns off the spotlight functionality. I like being able to pull up stuff with a quick command+space, but I hate the little magnifying glass icon.

I know mac isn't exactly known for customizability, so I should probably be expecting more problems like this in the future.

Pretty much, if you want to spend a lot of time customizing how the OS looks you're better off getting one of the *nixen instead of staying with OS X. You'll be less disappointed in the long run.

The argument that is usually presented on hackernews, etc. is that by using stuff from China, they don't give a **** about downloading music/movies and really anything except insulting the Chinese government.

And if you are outside of China they won't ever go after you for that (unlike the US who goes after people internationally all the time) so realistically you are being spied on by people who don't give a **** about anything you do.

Security and trust aren't the only criteria though - even if US-based companies still have an edge overall in terms of security and trust, if the edge is smaller than it used to be, they will still lose marginal customers.

Also, foreign governments are big IT customers and there may be additional regulations in response to these types of shenanigans that disadvantage non-local IT/cloud vendors, etc.

I don't have a Mac but I found this by googling:

If your business relies on trade secrets though, I'm sure that people who work for intelligence agencies, especially in poor countries, are very easily bought by your foreign competitors.

I think if you're a corporate user (and that's who I'm talking about), you'd be extremely foolish to trust the Chinese government over the American government. With the possible exceptions of companies that are closely connected to China.

Budget might be a reason. I'm sure Belgium government has stuff going on we have no idea about, but hard to believe it's going to be NSA level.

Bartender app is best app for customizing menu bar, it gives you option to hide it.

terminal:
find / -type f -name "*.png"
Will find all files on your mac that have extension png and you could do same for movies and music.
rm -rf "file" without quotes will force remove the file no matter what.

Most articles are complete garbage about anything finance related, actually more like all.

Definitely true. Although a lot of the things that are scary about what the NSA did can just be done through covert legislative means (vs. covert technological means). It wouldn't surprise me at all (in fact, I'd probably bet money on it) that the Canadian Government can and has forced Canadian companies to turn over information w/o public knowledge.

The things that the NSA or any government policy does to spy on people is one big joke.

I can imagine if terrorists really wanted to pass messages back and forth they would just sign up on a popular mmorpg game and start collecting items to drop on the ground, to form messages by spelling out letters on the ground with dropped items.

There are so many ways to do stuff like the above that trying to surveillance your own people is disgusting and shows the stupidity of the people working on it.

You can fight back however. Just send a lot of dick pics. Make it so anyone surveilling you is going to know your wiener in intimate detail.
