Dont mean to offend you, just seems all your post lack any thought process to getting to your conclusion (like the sun).

Agree basically, except I would put Chile, Uruguay, and some of the African teams above the boring Slavs and Swiss and so on. Good list though.

Which part of my post didn't you understand?

World class players (players that would walk into nearly every side in the world) : Robinho, Kaka, Lucio, Dani Alves, Julio Cesar

Maybe 'average' was the wrong word, and i should have phrased it as less World class players than previous years. This is how i came to my conclusion that i don't think they will make the final.

I'm a sucker for underdogs re: Slovs + Swiss.

I put the South American teams above Africa because I am predicting that everyone is going to be surprised by how good CONMEBOL is. I think every team could potentially get through, although 4/5 is more likely.

A team is more than a list of players.

ESPN is hyping it all the time.

Saturday is going to epic. Going to the bar my girlfriend works at for breakfast at 7:30am for the first game, then going to the main soccer bar in my town for the argentina game then USAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

A whole lot of hype actually, that's one of my favorite parts of the WC.

A lot of foreigners think Americans don't care about soccer at all, and to some extent it rings true. For example, if the USA is playing a World Cup Qualifier against someone other than Mexico, most of the public probably would have no idea it was even happening.

For whatever reason though, everyone goes crazy during the World Cup. Every other commercial, every 15 seconds on ESPN, every sports conversation even among non-soccer people, it's all about the World Cup.

I think it helps that we play England in the first game on the second day of the Cup too, that has driven a lot of people's interest.

Helps that the NFL and college football+hoops are in their offseason, NBA+NHL have "only the finals" to go and the MLB is in the "not close to the playoffs yet" phase

Bump one more time.

Group 2p2

Go ahead and enter more than one bracket if you want. Apparently you can win something through ESPN as well.

Instead of ranking them I will play the tournament through with my ideal tournament in rootingness, its easier.

Brackets rigth away( team listed first, ends up first in group stage)

South Africa > Greece
Algeria > Serbia
Holland > Slovakia
North Korea < Honduras
Argentina > Uruguay
Ghana < England
Paraguay < Cameroon
Chile > Brazil
------------------
South Africa < Algeria
Holland > Honduras
Argentina < England
Cameroon < Chile
--------------------
Algeria < Holland
England < Chile
-------------------
Algeria > England
Holland < Chile

or something like that.

Found this re:Canadian coverage, answering my own question.

Quote:
Hosting CBC's morning game coverage will be Mitch Peacock, along with analysts Nigel Reed and Bob Lenarduzzi.

Scott Russell will host the afternoon and prime time broadcasts with analysts Jason de Vos and John Collins.

De Vos, a former captain of Canada's national team, said the wide range of fans watching the broadcasts makes it a challenge to deliver information.

"It's a balancing act," he said. "There are die-hard soccer fans across the country. They want to see that in-depth, technical analysis.

"On the other end of the spectrum, you have fans that maybe watch only one soccer game every four years. You have to try and not alienate either party."

De Vos's prediction is for Spain to win the World Cup. His long-shot to watch is Serbia.

The hosts and analysts will work out of Toronto. CBC will use the world feed for match play-by-play.

People actually root for more than 1 team?
World Cup 2010: General Discussion Quote

What? When the USA plays, I cheer for them. When Argentina plays Nigeria I don't just sit there and stare at the screen and hate both teams. When my team isn't playing I generally have other teams that I like or dislike, and that influences who I'm rooting for, ldo.

ya, if England doesn't win then as long as one of
Portugal, Italy, Brazil, Argentina don't win then I'm pretty happy. (in that order)

To a much lesser extent Spain, Germany and the Dutch somewhat, but I really like the colour orange so maybe I do like them. Always have to cheer for the African nations

Even though I cheered the most for Spain at last Euro.

Having teams you despise can make watching these games really entertaining.
