not to mention that he actually put a ball in the back of the net that's a goal at least 50% of the time, but lolrefs.

I think this Altidore counterpoint is a bit of an oversell. He wasn't really bad. If you think he was that good, it is probably just because he has lowered all expectations beyond belief and him doing anything more than managing not to fall on his ass seems like a good play.

I am relatively confident that Aron would have done more out there. Would he have bullied CBs as much (and got a trillion fouls)? No. But he would have done other things better than Jozy, such as everything else.

has anyone else noticed how much the WC2014 song sucks dick? just awful, especially when compared to the mega-hyper-elite WC2010 song.

It took me more than 5 seconds of staring at it to realize it was supposed to be the WC trophy. I couldn't believe how bad that graphic was.

yeah lol mexico as always

their reward for a pathetic qualification campaign that was ultimately only successful due to the sheer dominance of the U S of A was getting handed an incredibly easy WC group. granted, a big part of the reason the group is viewed as so easy is that the mexicans are in it.

OK so here's my report from the game today. I'm only just now getting to know Team USA #1 having started following soccer about ~2-3 years ago. I've basically only watched European Leagues so alot of these guys are completely new to me.

Atmosphere: I was behind goal but not the side with the turkey leg/American outlaws. Place was pretty packed and I had an amazing time and the crowd was pretty good outside of some douchey bros right next to me. It was my first live soccer match other than watching my HS team play so it was super fun to root on USA #1.

The game/players: Goalkeeping is obviously solid. We are prob gonna need Timmy to make some big saves because my god that back line is shaky. The left side was a complete revolving door. Chandler routinely got burned.

Brad Davis is ****ing terrible. I don't know enough to know other people who should be on the team...but he shouldn't play a ****ing minute my god.

I thought Cameron was more or less solid. Fabian's strike off the sweet chip from Bradley was awesome.

I am not a Besler fan...at all. I thought he was terrible against Azerbaijan and he contributed to that really bad left side with Chandler.

Michael Bradley GOAT. Dempsey was pretty solid...he got frustrated pretty quickly a few times. Hope he channels it well in Brazil. I'm a Zusi guy from limited exposure. Thought he got out wide pretty well but didn't necessarily make a ton happen.

Thought there was good and bad with Jones. Didn't mind him out there today tbh.

Jozy Jozy Jozy. Man I just don't know with him. You guys seem encouraged by him today but I was pretty underwhelmed and so were most people around me. He is slow as molasses out there. He also got out physicalled in some spots which seriously can't happen. He has to be able to fend people off and control the ball and then let something be set up.

Subs: Guzan whatever. Pretty bummed they wasted a sub on Howard but I suppose they need to keep Guzan ready in case something happens down there.

Mix was mixing it up pretty well. He seemed to be flying around the pitch with tons of energy. Do want to see more.

Brooks is a big oaf. Yedlin was pretty meh. Beckerman is meh.

Julian Green. Kid is just not ready. Saw someone on twitter write that it's like a JV kid playing on varsity and that's pretty accurate. Can't fend off defenders and isn't ready to make plays yet at this level.

Overall thoughts: Defense is again just an absolute horror show. We are going to get shredded by all 3 teams we play barring Howard making some unreal saves.

We need to look to get forward more. Beckerman was obviously guilty of this in the 2H and Bradley was guilty of this all game. Quite a few times Bradley got the ball in the center with a ton of space to attack/create right up the middle and he didn't. Was really frustrating. We have nothing to lose in the WC so we might as well attempt to create some chances out there.

I really hope v. Nigeria we get to see Dempsey and Johannson together. I was super sad he didn't get in today. Wondo can stay away and Jozy can have a rest. I want to know if these two can create together.

Can Zusi and Mix both play in the diamond with one of them replacing Davis? I think this is ideal for us. A few times Mix drifted over to the left hand side in attacks so I think he can play over there with Zusi staying on the right.

Got some pretty fun pictures and had an amazing time. I'm pretty pessimistic when it comes to our chances down there even wrt goal scoring but am fully ready to root my heart out for USA #1.

I was watching him not catching up to balls and get dispossessed. I thought he was pretty bad for some stretches today. I know it's easy to hate on him but I would not be overly encouraged by today.

yeah the fact that that should be considered a pretty good game for him is really the biggest indictment possible

You are highlighting his relative performances too much. He had a good "jozy" day which is to say he was basically average today.
