Arrow US Men's National Soccer Team Thread: USA #1

ITT we talk about the way forward for the USMNT at least until we start qualifying for 2014.

Ground rules:

1. "Lol Soccer" type posts are a ban.
2. Euros/others looking to post-WC troll get a ban.

re: USA World Cup 2010 Discussion (For Post WC Discussion See New Thread)

if anybody saw danny mwanga today, pray we cap that boy (he was #1 pick in MLS this yr. from ore. st)

he's 18, and has 4 goals in 8 appearances for philly union (not a great squad admittedly, perhaps adding to his signifigance?).

hopefully whoever is our next MNT coach will look at this kid ASAP, because he looked really good today and he would add some real color to our midfield/forward slots.

random side note, and i didn't know this. sebastian le toux who is coming to be in form for philly, recently declared himself for the USMNT b/c france wasn't interested (in 2008, when he was horrible, 28 apps 1 goal). hes got 9 apps 6 goals this yr.

Meh, Le Toux is in his mid twenties already, I'm not interested in him.

Definitely cap Mwanga ASAP though. I'd really like to see USSoccer be really proactive in getting as many young players capped as soon as possible. Take a risk on reaching out to 5 or 7 guys or whatever, even knowing that some of them won't work out. If one or two end up being good then it's worth it imo.

What about that Najar kid too, plays for DC I think? Cap him imo, in the friendly against Poland.

Yeah, capping guys so they can't run away is a good idea imo

Seriously though if there was ever a time to drop some young guys in the squad it's now.

I was just looking at the U-20 roster and there are a few guys that could play for a different country. Most don't have a wiki page yet, but a few do.

Hmmm..... CB from Togo...playing for Braga right now...maybe cap him one time?

can't believe he turned down Arsenal, that would have been perfect for him! Probably homesick.

How plausible was that possibility really? There's a lot of weird rules with youth going to play pro in england.

How plausible? In what way? Yeah there are weird rules, but you can offer a 16 year old a professional contract. Actually, I believe at 16 they have to either offer you one or release you. Getting the work permit might have been hard, but I think at that age its easier for them to get the exception based on talent. Its weird for sure.

According to Leigh, West Ham super scout Jimmy Hampson once told him that Lletget is the best 14-year-old to ever play for the famed club. Keep in mind, West Ham has developed, among others, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole.

OK, I'm only asking because one of my coaches was from Ipswich Town and looked into a teammate possibly going over there. He was 15 though and not too high on the idea to begin with. The coach came back saying that some rules made it so he wouldn't have be able to go.

Capping Lletget is even bigger priority as he is eligible for Argentina(I think) and said he would accept their call up despite playing through USA youth teams. I'll try and find the quote by him to edit in.

Friendly caps don't cap lock people, right? This means that we cant lock people until the Gold Cup, which kind of conflicts with winning it. (we will have easy group stage games).

I thought friendlies did lock people, as long as it was the full team.

Can someone explain this in more layman's terms. I'm not really sure what the caps and lock mean in this instance.
