RECORD, the biggest sports newspaper in Mexico, let the people vote on the cover of the year. this is what won:

as you can see, we are still very thankful. this was just a terrible year and im so ready for 2014.

happy new year americans, with us not having to play each other next year, i truly wish you success. not as much as mexico, but enough so that you dont have to go through your standard 3-and-out at the world cup routine like you always do.

In the last 20 years, the US has advanced to at least the round of 16 in 3 out of 5 WCs. So please.. do your best to explain to us how 2 out of 5 is "always".

for some reason, i always seem to think that you guys failed in 2010 but finally remember that it took a last minute goal vs Algeria to move onto the KO stages. my bad.

1998 no
2002 yes
2006 no
2010 yes

still looks like failure to me.

When was the last KO stage game Mexico won?

ETA: U 13 Central American Championships don't count.

January camp roster released:

GOALKEEPERS (4): Tally Hall (Houston Dynamo), Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)

DEFENDERS (10): Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders FC), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Clarence Goodson (San Jose Earthquakes), Michael Harrington (Portland Timbers), Chris Klute (Colorado Rapids), Chance Myers (Sporting Kansas City), Shane O’Neill (Colorado Rapids), Seth Sinovic (Sporting Kansas City), DeAndre Yedlin (Seattle Sounders FC)

MIDFIELDERS (8): Eric Alexander (New York Red Bulls), Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg), Benny Feilhaber (Sporting Kansas City), Luis Gil (Real Salt Lake), Dax McCarty (New York Red Bulls), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)

FORWARDS (4): Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy), Eddie Johnson (D.C. United), Mike Magee (Chicago Fire), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)

Early thoughts:
WHOA Michael Harrington! He had a really good rookie year at SKC back in 2006 or 2007 but then seemed to fall out of favor there. Put in some really strong performances for Portland this year and earned his way back into the USMNT mix. I'm excited to see how he does.

This confirms there is 0% chance of Landon going on loan or training stints in Europe this year.

Kinda surprised Jack Mack didn't get a call up given that I haven't heard anything about him going to Europe for training this offseason. I guess him cooling off over the last few months of the season killed any hope of the 21 year old making the WC squad this year.

Chris Klute, Chance Myers, DeAndre Yedlin, Seth Sinovic: the outside back spots may be up for grabs

Really really hope Luis Gil gets some action in the friendlies. Let's see what he can do at the international level.

Super awesome that the team is spending 12 days at our training site for the WC in Brazil.

Don't really get why Landon isn't going to Europe, but I guess he just doesn't want to go anywhere other than Everton and there need for him isn't there like it used to be.

He did just take a sabbatical from the game. My guess is he isn't into playing soccer 365 days a year anymore.

He said the continental US. By the way, the US isn't the largest country either. Russia is the largest followed by Canada and then either the US or China.

Posting this here instead of in the MLS thread so more people see it.

Internet is currently exploding over MB90 to Toronto rumor that was started by Twellman.
